    qsee camera system

Bought the http://m.costco.com/.product.100153934.html system discussed in prior thread -

Being old and decrepit, paid to have the cables run and cameras installed. Part of a larger project of house upgrades, so I don't have a specific price on that task.

I'm getting similar pix to those noted in that old thread.

Just wanted to add some info on how that all works with Apple stuff; I have the monitoring software for OSX and for IOS (Ipad).

There was a transition in the software, and a couple little software near-bugs.

First set-up is the direct-connect to the DVR with the supplied mouse and a HDMI cable to a TV; that worked well enough to let me name my cameras and add a user, and also change the default admin password. Remember that ...

The first laptop software was SmartPSS, which worked pretty well. Wasn't very Mac-like, didn't quit properly, but all the expected functions were there. Pretty good CPU hog, too.

One of the features again was 'add user'. I could log out of SmartPSS and log in to any of my users. Nice.

Along comes QSEE View, the laptop upgrade to the software.

And it won't accept any of my users - and I changed the default admin password, and it won't buy that either.

Turns out there are TWO places to add users in SmartPSS, one at the home page, and one under the device setup. Create users at the device level, and it all works.

QSEE View is a CPU hog, too, and still has Windows window-controls. But it works.

QSEE QC View (it's different for different groups of their systems) is the Ipad app. It comes up OK, and wants me to add a device. Well, that's sensible, but it wouldn't take my first set of users.

So I added users in the right place, and now I get farther. It tells me I logged on - but can't connect.

After a bit, I figured out what it meant was that my user was already logged on. Ah - true: still had QSEE View up on my laptop. Create new user, it lets me on, and then it works.

Pretty much a CPU/battery hog on the Ipad, but at the moment I have it plugged in to its charger and the Ipad is a monitor for the cameras, so that's not a problem.

Night vision is pretty good. License plates are highly reflective in IR, so can't read them at night. In daylight, that's easy at house-to-driveway distance. House to street is harder because of the curvature of the image.

Some insects seem to be attracted to IR.

I'm not using the port-forwarding/pinhole stuff; I'm really only interested in monitoring while we are at home.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I find this system not so reliable when away from home... Good luck with customer service/tech support...

Tech Support was actually pretty good when I bought the system, and OK at the start of my 'user problem'.

But I hate phones, so I want to do my TS via email, and they got fed up with that and told me I could call or they would close the incident.

Never called, figured it out on my own.

Don't intend to use it when away from home - it's a 'who is at the door?' and 'what is making that racket out there?' answering system, and 'record motion all the time' system (but I don't have alerts generated - one camera faces the street, so it would alarm at every car going by, tree branches moving, leaves swirling, ...)

I have the same system and although i'm not to impressed, it does work. Wired systems allow for faster and higher resolution recording, but are a pain to wire.

I bought the system before i realized that the oversize ducting, dividing the attic into quadrants, of which i can only access one without cutting a new entrance.

          Weird experience last night.

Looked like big nets of particles waving in front of my cameras.

Went outside with a long-handled brush; I expected spider webs.

Nope. It was foggy, and the IR from the camera lit that up like tiny fireworks!

Yep. The IR lights up spider webs and fog big time.

I have a couple of cams that I removed the IR illuminator from and put it in a separate housing several feet off axis from the camera. Much better.
