Is my ISP Blocking Gun related websites?

    So wierd thing today,

I googled and looked up Dansammo and Centerfire Systems, when I clicked on the links I got a DNS probe error.

I was able to get to AimSurplus and Calguns and thought it was a fluke.

So I decided to change my DNS Server to 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS Servers) and Dans Ammo and Centerfire systems were reachable.

So I came to the conclusion that since my router is getting DNS resolution from the ISP that they were blocking it because when I overrode it by changing my DNS server on my laptop it suddenly worked.

    Any thoughts?

It could have been a transient error on your ISP DNS server. You've come to a premature conclusion, and you need to test again over the course of a couple of days.

I would not continue to use the Google DNS, because it will give bad location info to content delivery networks, and could severely impact your speed to things like the IOS app store amd many other large sites as it refers you to Europe or Asia networks for those sites instead of US West coast networks.

Also - a DNS probe error is not what I would expect if the hostnames or domains were sinkholed. And if they were using a DNS based filtering service like OpenDNS, that would usually result in a redirect. Plus ISPs have to provide fair access, so it would be unlikely they would be doing this.

If you continue to get this we need to know what OS and browser, and see the output from ipconfig /all if running Windows.
