I really wanted a WiFi-connected sprinkler timer for faster programming/changes, but if I needed one this would be a good idea too, assuming the NSA didn't want to...

Honeywell and Totaline seem to be different companies. (or at lest distinct intities) I could not find adequate information on the features of Totaline products to meet my needs.

It seems silly to invest such effort in a T-stat. However, it should be a one-time purchase and one should be happy with their choice. At this point, I;m leaning toward the Ecobee3 for two reasons: More control over fan timing, and a tighter deadband. (Nest is hardcoded to 3 degreesF) The additional temp sensor of the Ecobee3 is nice, but not as utile since, in its current programming, one can only average temperatures, not decided which sensor should drive the furnace.

I have a Honeywell wifi 9320 (think that's the number) and love them. Have two, one per floor. I have them linked to my wink hub and configured with IFTTT, works like a charm. I looked into the NEST but decided the Honeywell was right for me. Good luck!

We have 3 Nest thermostats in our home and they are awesome. I tried the Honeywell but didn't like it as much.

I was just thinking about whether or not a 2nd Nest could be used for temp sensing and "away" detection in the bedroom.

Do you have 3 separate zones on your HVAC system, or do the units work together?

Have installed EVERY SINGLE THERMOSTAT out there in qty. And know all the players and support in the trade. Have been in the trade 27 years. Ecobee 3 is light years above the rest. In last 5 years we have installed 5000 thermostats. I just last week we installed ecobee 3 in my sister's house. Awesome platform.

                          We have 3 separate systems.
                          1 for downstairs
                          1 for master bedroom
                          1 for upstairs

It's nice because we can choose which parts of the house we want to cool/heat.

                            Ahh...

                            I've got a 1000 sqft condo, 2 floors.
While a separate zone for the bedroom would be nice, because it gets uncomfortably stuffy and warm in the mornings on the weekends (I just kick the fan on), a dual zone would be overkill.

I guess I could mount one and run power to it so it could monitor for "away" mode, but that's a pretty expensive motion sensor, and as horrible as our system is, we can't allow it to shut down when we're only away for a few hours.

Summer, it will run for 24 hours and STILL can't maintain 78. It was fine before we had the furnace and A-coil replaced in '09.
Just don't know who to call. We've had two guys come out when my wife was home and they said it was a "little low but fine"... Don't see how it's "fine" when I can rest my hand on the side of the A-coil and only the bottom two rows of tubes are cold... there's no way I have 10, or even 5 degrees difference between intake and exhaust.
