    Cable TV Issue - **Fixed**

So here's an issue I've run into and now I'm stumped. Time to pick the brains of the collective here.

Cable comes in through the wall and connects to a cable box in the master bedroom. It's hooked up to a Samsung Plasma TV thru an HDMI cable and works fine.

I mounted a TV in the garage and ran an RG6 cable through the attic and down into the master bedroom. That cable I hooked up to the back of the cable box in the only spot you could and it is marked out. The cable length from the garage to the cable box is 100'.

When I turn the cable box on in the bedroom, the picture comes on in the garage but no sound. When you turn on the bedroom tv the sound comes on in the garage (even when the bedroom tv is muted). I disconnected the HDMI from the bedroom TV to the cable box...Still no sound on the garage tv. I bought a 36db signal booster and installed it between the cable box and the cable going to the garage. Still no sound (with bedroom tv off), but have picture.

So...In a perfect world I'd like to have picture & sound in the garage without having to turn on the TV in the bedroom.

    Cliff Notes:

Cable box to TV via HDMI works perfect.
Cable box to TV 100' away Via coax Picture, no sound unless TV connected via HDMI is on.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

Might he a setting in the box that is set for HDMI which might affect the output options.

Put a splitter in the line before the box. One run to the box, the other to the garage.
Guns, dogs and home alarms. Opponents are all of a sudden advocates once their personal space is violated.

      Hello I saw your post
I think you got your connection wrong the rg6 cable should be going into your cable box in the port that says {In} and the cable running out of the box in {out} should be going to your TV, the {In} connection is what you need to look for

I'll try that too and report back.

I may not have been too clear. The cable coming in from the street is hooked up to the 'IN" on the cable box coax connection. The garage TV is hooked up to the back of the cable box via the coax out. Get picture but no sound in garage.

Thanks. I will definitely try that when I get home tonight. Please educate me on this...If I put a splitter before the cable box and run a cable to the garage directly from the splitter, How will the garage tv know what channel to show? There is no cable box in the garage.

As long as you have a newish TV, it will decode most of the channels. You won't get HBO etc, but everything else should work.

FWIW- It probably won't be a "switch" on the box, but a setting in the programming section of the box's set-up (which I know nothing about. We don't have a box)

Went through the cable box audio settings and saw no such thing.

Ok, now I have picture and sound, but picture is pretty crappy. It reminds me of the old rabbit ear channels when I was a kid. The signal booster only made it worse. I'd love to be able to watch shows I DVR'd out in the garage while I'm reloading.

No such luck at this point, but at least I have something.

                          Thanks for your suggestions.

If the garage TV is not hdmi you'll probably have to go in to the cable box settings and select a signal that is compatible with it and may have to unplug the hdmi cable from the bedroom TV.

Don't use an amp at all. Can you try coax to the tv in the bedroom instead of HDMI and just put a splitter on the out of the cable box? Sounds like all the outputs are not working on the box but that doesn't mean that the box is bad. A lot of times they just don't turn on all the features on the hardware side of the box.
