    gmail skipping inbox

can't seem to find a good answer on the web. Basically new emails are making it into all mail but not in inbox. I know inbox, sent, etc. are all just labels. but oddly, it's very slim picking new emails getting into inbox vs. not. i see new ones on same day even when i click on all mail.

i'm using firefox and chrome, not a email client like others who sought help. Below are what I checked also.

    * inbox is set to default. was never changed to prioirty, unread only, etc. always been default and doublechecked it still is.

    * I have some rules but these rules aren't ones being skipped in inbox (obviously since my rule says skip inbox). i deleted all these rules but still happening.

    * there doesn't seem to be any pattern since stuff from midwayusa, bcm, etc. skip the inbox but is in all mail as unread. not all about 2a related either (tinfoil hat on).

    * no google labs apps that should impact skipping inbox.

    * i dont' enable past actions to apply for future.

thoughts? no answer on google forum either for a few days. seems like quite a bit of threads on this but no real answer when using browser for client, and all suggestions check out. guess it's been happening more so recently and enough to be bothersome at this point.

oddly, i see quite a bit of emails w/o labels either.

hmmm. no one of y'all use an email thin client? that'll be the enxt thing i'll try. not use my outlook at all (or em client at work) to see if it still happens. really strange things show up in all mail but not in inbox with zero rules, zero copy actions from last time, no archiving, etc.

Have you enabled and/or are using the "tabs" feature? if so try disabling it.

(gear icon, configure inbox, uncheck all boxes except for primary)

no tabs... i'm wondering if it's related to my connection with outlook now. it's been happening less when i unchecked purge in the mail setting (where you set ports and ssl/tls).

oddly, i never had to change these things before that i recall. so mayhbe that's why when i do a search i see unread emails in the past but aren't in my inbox.

i've been tracking this for almost 1 month. i can't figure out why but i think it's outlook 2013. i still have rules all removed from gmail. the issue i see is that when i click on delete in outlook, it doesn't go to delete folder. rather, the label inbox is removed and put in all mail in gmail. it's not exactly repeatable because some emails make it to delete box while others just get the inbox label removed. strange!!!

doesn't happen with hotmail. i use imap for both in gmail and hotmail when accessing thru outlook.

why use outlook? because stupid gmail can't sort by sender or by email size. that's where outlook comes in fast and i can read/browse/delete/archive stuff much faster.

i'll downloadn em client (think that's the name) and see if the results are the same.

I'm using Outlook for Mac for google hosted mail and don't have these issues. As far as the deletion issue, that sounds like the 'archive' behavior. You should be able to configure the behavior of the deletion function and other IMAP folders in the client. I usually always have to set this up for any mail client (e.g. Apple Mail.app or MS Outlook) for google hosted mail, such that delete sends to the Trash folder on the mail server (and not Trash on local).
