Email forwarding

My dad is trying to forward his work email to his personal email, but was wondering if he gets it forward from his work email (such as hisname@hisdomain.com) to a gmail, when he responds, will the response come from his personal email address or still from the work one?

He can actually setup gmail to send from his work email.

Go under Gmail Settings -> Accounts and Import -> Send email as -> Add another email address you own.

From there, you setup the work email address and use the work smtp server (assuming the work smtp server doesn't have any restrictions; but gmail will just as act as standard email client; use smtp auth).

After this is setup he, when he sends new / reply emails, the "from:" line in the email composer will be a drop down where he can select from which email address the email should "come" from.

I use this for a couple of email addresses I don't actually IMAP to in order to check received email, and instead forward.

He should double check the policy at work. Some places have a policy against doing this.
