I swear that I am about to go all out hack mode on this OS...
This DAMN OS has been eating up space since I installed it.
I noticed that it is mainly this WINSXS folder that likes to grow FOR NO REASON.
I do NOT have auto updates on and there is NO reason why I need to keep freeing up space. I am going to read my win7 e-books now and see what the solution is.
Here is why I am pissed at it now. I have a program that I have been running with Windows XP and Win 7 now called NET LIMITER. It has been my firewall and apparently I found out it had been keeping stats on my hard drive, and the DB file grew to 3.5GB large. WTH?
But I have been struggling for space for some reason and finally I had around 458KB of space on the C: so I DELETED the DB file and gave myself 3.5GB of space back. (the paging file is kept on the D: )
So LESS than a week ago I deleted the file (4 days ago actually) and I checked the C: each time looking for space and it fluctuated from 3.7-3.4GB and then finally I got a warning yesterday telling me that I was VERY low on C: space and I was like WHAT? I ran treesize and my damn windows folder is NOW comsuming 18.x GB of space on my 26GB partition!
I checked the Windows folder to see where I can trim some fat and I see that DAMN WINSXS folder is up to over 8.5GB and I SWEAR none of that needs to be there.
I do NOT recall this issue with the City computers running windows Pro 32 bit version. I am running 32 bit ultra version which is just pro + extra garbage like language packs that are not needed.
My computer has started giving me issues lately- two blue screens and freezing up, HD LED constantly on, no mouse or KB input, gotta hit RESET...
I honestly think most of my new issues stem from hardware here. Not necessarily free space.
My system has frozen up several times (heat related I believe since the temps hit 58deg cel before they froze) and I honestly think this 939 mobo is on its way out and it will take this AMD Athlon 64 3800 x2 with it.
That is fine, I THINK I can replace it in about a week or two anyways and I will and also get more space to migrate data, but damn it is just so annoying.
I WOULD migrate to a Linux version but there are some windows things that I need to run, but I am thinking, Maybe a VM will work for me and I can run Linux or Kubuntu and run Windows in a VM within it.
Anyways... I am just pissed that it is being a ***** like this and eating up every bit of space I try to free up for wiggle room.
As for the EXPLORER replacement, Directory Opus works GREAT. I LOVE the copy queing! It allowed me to make several moves and it just queued up EVERYTHING one right after another. 250k pics + movies moved + ebooks, I just setit up and walked away to get a drink, when I came back, it was cycling through them all.
I am really liking it but I have not yet explored every last detail of the program. But it is really nice and it is a GREAT replacement for Windows explorer.
