Remove the Windows 10 notification now

Set your updates to "check but let me choose whether to download install"

Open cmd as administrator, run the following:

    wusa /uninstall /kb:3035583 /quiet /promptrestart

After restart, hide the 3035583 update, then you can set your automatic updates back to auto install if you want.

" After restart, hide the 3035583 update, then you can set your automatic updates back to auto install if you want. "

if you do that Windows Update will download and install kb3035583 automatically. This is what online people are saying happened to them (Windows update reinstalled kb3035583 after the user had uninstalled it).

You have to shut off auto install windows update. Probably leave it that way forever. Or MS will be back trying to put Win 10 on your system.

On older systems especially, hardware drivers may not be compatible with Win 10 and there may never be drivers for the hardware that will be compatible. Thus Win 10 can completely hose the system.

Eh, if you hide the update it should not automatically install, but I haven't tested and I don't care to test. I prefer reviewing the offered updates, which is why the mentioned update and 2 or 3 meant to prep your system for win10 never made it to my system.

Microsoft can go to hell. I'm done.

          What is CMD?

I uninstalled the 3035583 update, but don't remember if I restarted the computer yet. I still have the nagging icon as a hidden notification, but would like to get rid of that as I only want to see the items I use. I also want to make sure there is no way my 8.1 is updated to 10.0.

I agree..............MS can take a long walk off a short pier. I hate being forced into stuff and hate advertising. 8.1 is enough of a pain but I got my start menu and am able to do most of what I need without ever looking at that metro/tiles/ or whatever other crap it is that they added as a GUI. XP was simple and just plain worked. I saw the option to make an MS account for cloud services or apps and that other stuff. I don't need their apps or any other connected BS.

It doesn't surprise me that 10 is loaded with "connected" so called "features." I am one who doesn't do all the social media and doesn't care to be connected. Google is always trying to get me to sign up for Google+. F them. I use maps or youtube without google + and just make due. I don't need to share my info with others or see what they are doing. Forums are just fine. I will post when I have a comment on the topic at hand and will read what I am interested in. Why do I need to announce everything that happens in my life to the whole world?

Now is like the gold rush, except with data. It seems companies just can't mine enough of it. I prefer to keep at least some of my info and activities private ( I know there are trade offs with using tech.), but many people don't seem to care about putting their lives out there for others to see.

Sorry, I try to stay out of this forum

Get to a command prompt, seems you are on 8 or 8.1, so hit the windows key, and in the search box in top/right type cmd, right click the first option and "run as administrator," then copy/paste the command from my first post to uninstall the Windows 10 upgrade prompt.

You'll want to temporarily disable the automatic update because you're uninstalling a windows update and you don't want it to download again.

You can always get this back later if you want it by clicking the "Restore hidden udpates" button in Windows Update.

You can access cmd by hitting the windows key and the letter R.

Microsoft has a work around for people who do exactly this - I know because I did it a couple months ago, and somehow it magically got downloaded again, so I had to do it again.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

Boot from USB with Kali Linux for an awesome experience! And some how Win 10 doesn't take control.

End task GWX in task manager.

                    GoTo: C:\windows\System32
                    Then: Delete GWX file.

Then GoTo: C:\windows\SysWOW64 if you're running 64 bit.

                    Delete GWX folder.

If windows won't allow you to move, delete, or alter those files, you need to take ownership, Here's how:

Copy and paste the following into notepad, save as a .reg file, instead of a .txt file, click it, and it will install into the registry. You now have a RC option to "Take Ownership". Then you can delete the files, move them, etc.

                    This works with Win7/8/8.1.

After this, you'll need to go to automatic updates, and uncheck update KB3035583, so windows update ignores it.

Copy and paste ALL of this:
