What non-mainstream (sub-$50/cheaper) devices do you stream via?

I might wish to try my luck at the new quad-core MK808B Plus devices, but I wanted some input.

I have 4 Chromcasts, a MK808B (I can't find, but it stopped being reliable anyway ), and I retired a Roku a few years ago. I can't seem to find a way to stream live ABC news to Chromecast (for the lady, and only the lady), so I can't drop the DirecTV service, YET.

It looks like AppleTV is trying to play catchup with Chromecast pricing, but:
What devices do you stream TV to?

What devices do you stream Netflix/HULU/Amazon prime to?

Anyone using a HDMI Android box, or other Non-Roku Linux-based box they stream to? What OS derivative and application do you use (Kodi/XBMC)?

I've used about everything. I didn't like the picture / frame rate on android units (crashing aside on the really cheap stick units). I think it was probably flash related. If I could kick the device into mpeg it looked good but I couldn't always.

If TV news is the hold up; you could use a TV turner on a PC to record it and play it back to one of your tv boxes via DLNA.

Roku and my sony blueray ended up being my goto devices...

Amazon Fire TV Stick for $40. It can load all the traditional apps you mentioned and work as well as Chromecast. You can then load XBMC/ KODI to watch everything else.

Get a Fire TV Stick for $40(from Staples or BestBuy - use coupons) or Fire TV for $100(less with coupons @ staples.com) and if you a have a min 10mbs wifi connection, you can stream the following channels through KODI HELIX 14.2(latest version of XBMC) and the ustvnow addon on the the Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, windows machine, android device,...etc. Just sign up for their free service(no cc required, just create a throwaway email account) at ustvnow.com and create a free user name and password and enter them in the settings of the ustvnow addon in KODI. Only catch is.... channels are east coast.

Yes, I realized that when I got all excited that I could ditch cable when I brought my lady home a miniPC that I could stream ABC to...

She said no-go if not West coast ABC.

any more new suggestion ? Cox cable has been switching off to their digital box and package for more $$ a month. Trying to find free apps and want to watch TV from iPad to Chromecast on TV. Travel channel and history are two I watch.
If I buy the package for 2 channels its $60-70 a month and 100 stupid channels.

Look into SlingTV on an Amazon Fire Stick (with Kodi installed of course.) This will cover pretty much everything and Sling TV is only$20/month.

i have had many different ones and now only use the fire tv. i also got them on sale really cheap but still the fire stick is also good.

i have KODI installed on the stick but i dont use it much. typically just use the apps plus plex.
