Help me switch from xbox360 to xbox one

My son wants Halo 5 and Halo 2 anniversary. I think they only work on xbox one.

I barely know how these things work. I got his xbox360 4gb used off a customer down on his luck a few years ago. Since then the games we have are
COD - all of them through advanced warfare if that is the newest
Black ops- all of them i guess
    Halo- most of them
    Lego batman
Left for dead 1 and 2---i play these

It has 4 wireless xbox brand controllers

It seems like his 360 is on its last legs. It is maxed on memory and sometimes overheats. Some games on redbox wont even play on it for memory issues. I think it is time to move over to xbox one

Is anything I have backwards compatible like games and controllers?

Can I move his game settings or "people" over to xbox one or will I now have 2 video consoles in my home theater?

Are there any good deals right now for the xbox one and are there any versions that are preferred?

Xbox one is not backwards compatible with 360, as far as peoplr, I assume you mean friends list. All that is tied into his Xbox live account, which can be used on the Xbox one. As for deals I am not to sure, I think they reduced the price a bit ago but not by much. If you are in socal I myself am selling my Xbox one with 7 games for 300.

Xbox one is not backward compatible yet(that what I believe). Because people are still buying Xbox 360. Just log on Xbox one with the gamer tag you use on the 360. Keep the 360 as is.

As the others said no backwards compatability so if you want to play any of the games you have your gonna have to keep the 360 either way. The gamer tag and his stats can all be moved over.

I made the transition a couple months ago. nothing is B/C. some games like borderlands have ways to transfer your game saves and characters but thats about it. As far as his xbox live account goes it is actually shared and not transferred to the new console. I still have 2 360's in our house that we use as media devices for watching movies or tv.

if his 360 is not reading games you can easily adjust the laser, if you are out of storage space that can be upgraded as well.

The transitions isn't too difficult to transition.

Xbox one is not backwards compatible (same with ps4)

As for "transferring" the friends list, that is easy, its all tied to the account. Once you log onto Xbox One with the account, you are good to go.

If you wanna play the old games, you are gonna have to keep the 360. (if it makes you feel better, I own over 10 video game systems lol)

If you ever looking to sale some stuff or get rid of it let me know. If you have Halo 3 I would take that, and left 4 dead 2.

I am not aware of any Xbox one bundle sales right now. But keep an eye on the big box stores and electronic stores.

If you need help. Just PM me.

Wait until used Xbones are under $200/pop... there, you have been helped.

Then physical-disc games will be under $35/pop too.

Hell, I got 2x Borderlands 2 discs (360) for <$30 together, because I waited, and Assault on Dragon Keep pretty-cheap too.

I went to the local gamestop last night located in the mall. The boy and I walked in and it was wall to wall 20 something males. A lot of them were making weird eye gestures that had me wondering what they were doing. I looked in the direction and saw the single 20 something girl working the register. I felt like I was in that Big Bang Theory show with the nerds in the comic shop. My boy and I started looking for some used 360 games and after a few minutes the girl came to us and asked if we needed help. I told her our situation and she said that Microsoft is dropping support for the 360 at the end of the year. I had no idea what she meant but figured it was the same as dropping support for WIndows OS. Not a big deal, just no updates and no more help. It took me 9 years to change from XP to WIN7 and I'm holding onto WIN7 as long as possible.

She said I could install an xbox 500gb hard drive to fix the 4gb issue and I told her that I had an external thumbdrive already but she said it did not work the same way. Then she told me she was not sure she if we could transfer the 4gb data over to the 500gb drive so I left it at the store. Can I transfer his stuff from the original HDD to the 500gb?

The girl then hung out with us for about 20 minutes helping my son find a used game while the other worker helped everyone else. It took me awhile to realize that my son and I were probably a security buffer for her from all the leg humpers. They were all keeping a distance but I could tell they were not happy. When he found a game he wanted she walked us up to the register to ring us up.

The "people" I'm talking about are all the players he created on the main menu. 1 for me, 1 for mom, 1 for th sitter, and he has 2-3 players he switches between. He likes to play multi-player in COD and Halo by himself and just test the weapons and I guess it helps him get new rankings or something. All I know is I can't play against him anymore. He won't even be nice and shoot me. He just hunts me down and stabs me or hits me with the riot shield and I can shoot him dozens of times with an LMG and he won't die. Now that I know the games won't transfer to the xbox 1 I guess those saved rankings will stay with the 360.

I never connected his 360 to the internet either. I was afraid he might hear fouler language or worse than what is already on the games. The girl told me the xbox 1 has to be connected to use but does not require the live game pass.

I guess I'm keeping the 360 and he does have Halo 3. I doubt he will let go of anything. He still has baby toys he won't let me get rid of that are stored in the attic.

Not sure if this is a good deal

She sold you a line on the HDD. Just use another USB Thumbdrive if you are running out of space on your x360. The only thing to watch out for is to make sure the read/write speed is fast enough on it. (The x360 will check when you try to use it for the first time, but if you get a faster one, you do get the bonus of faster access speeds).

There are a couple of games where having an HDD is better on the X360, but overall it doesn't matter. I used to install games on a USB stick on my X360 and I had the biggest HDD possible.

That being said, you can get used or older style X360 branded HDDs for not much money, if you look around.

As for transitioning to the X1, keep your x360, sign up on the x1 with your current xbox live account (ms account) and then get your self some X1 controllers and some games because nothing is backwards compatible.

One positive, if you do have an xbox gold account, is MS has been giving 1 or 2 games away for free every month, and some have been pretty decent. So eventually, you will build up a small library of games with out actually having to pay for stuff.
