how does this security camera system look

I've been putting off a system for a while. I really need to get setup. This is at the top of my current budget. And seems decent. I can't find much about analog hd. But it's 1080p. Any input. I'm ready to spend the money today.

I know less than you do about this stuff BUT that looks like a nice set up for the money.
Costco guarantee's your satisfaction for 90 days of purchase for a refund.

Ill have to run it by a tech friend and ask.

I would research what happens when the drive, or DVR dies.

I talked to a security-guy that has a DVR that won't boot this week...
He has to replace the DVR, most likely, but since the Coax is already run, and it uses industry-standard coax for the cameras, he just needs a new DVR, but this one might be proprietary, I don't know.

Do you have to replace the drive, or the whole unit?

If you replace the DVR, are the cameras compatible with whatever the next-gen of DVR is, IF the DVR has to be replaced when the drive dies and you cannot find a direct replacement?

If you have to run coax, or Ethernet to each location, do you live in a 2-story?
(Do you care if you see the wires if this is the case?)

If you can afford to replace the system in it's entirety in the event none of the above works, then go for it right now, but what does it entail, time and work-wise?

The are other, more OPEN solutions, if you want redundancy. Think multiple hidden boxes with backups of what is captured on cameras, in case the DVR is found by some scumbag that broke in...

      Just my initial thoughts...

That seems a good price for the hardware, be advised running the cables can be a PITA. The model you are looking at has 1 feedback on Amazon (1 star) - a DOA unit.

Good deal. You can not go wrong. I have the 720P version w/ 8 cameras and it is great. As mentioned above, running cables is a MAJOR PITA if you want it done correctly. It took me a couple of weeks (doing it after work and on the weekend) to pull the 8 lines and install a dedicated power supply. I dumped the ice cube transformer they send and got a NEMA type locked enclosure with built in PS. IMO, that is the only way to go. I got the PS on Amazon.

If you do have any issues QSEE has good customer service and they are in LA area. I have had 1 camera that was DOA but they replaced it in like 2 days. I have the equipment a full week before I even had the cables pulled. I would advise that you connect EVERYTHING on the bench and make sure the cables and cameras all work for an EXTENDED time BEFORE you run wires and install cameras.

          Good luck!

Well they are on their way. Will return with a review once it's all setup. The cables shouldn't be too bad. I did the cable TV lines through attic and walls few years ago.

congratulations on doing this BEFORE something big happens.

I leafed through a book on how to position these things and all the common mistakes people make etc.

Can't remember its title but I suggest a bit of research in that area before installing. Some of it was counter intuitive, IIRC.

I think 1080P systems use network cable, so it is easier to run and you can make your cables any (reasonable) length with a couple of inexpensive tools.

I lost a DVR (thanks PG&E for turning the power off, then on, then off, then on...) and had to buy a new one.
Everything hooked up fine and it does what the last one did, even though it is a different brand.

This system does NOT use standard network cables. Instead it is a hybrid system which transmits digital signal over coax via standard CCTV cables. Either way, you can make custom cables if you choose. I saw the tools and connectors online at Amazon. If I were to do it over again, I would seriously consider making custom cables.

                          Sorry to hear that.

Sounds like a LOSING BATTLE. I'd start planning a move, since RE is coming back somewhat.

It will only get worse and they have the defacto backing of DiFi, Jerry Brown, Hollywood, Wall Street, Bill Gates, George Soros, Red China, Warren Buffet and last but not least the current and future Commander-In-Chiefs of US military.

                          Think about it.

You are defacto like some ISIS guy trying to defy all of NATO, but all on his own because unlike some ISIS guy you don't have any buddies willing to back you up, due to political correctness.

PS-did the Auto Theft Task Force give you a free Club for your next car? I got mine. Pretty good unit, IMO. Steel key that no locksmith has ability to dupe.

Dual Power and Signal BNC cables are pretty standard for analog cctv systems... Its usually the newer more expensive digital IP systems that use network cables...

Got it. And have it all set up in the living room for now. Looks pretty damn decent. Especially from what I've seen of true analog, like the Samsung 4 camera 960H I saw displayed at costco the other day for $700.... yuck!

I'm sure it would look alot better once mounted outside. The color picture doesn't show up very well in a dim lighted room.

Costco concierge worked well for helping me trouble shoot that the ethernet cable that came with was no good. Had to dig a spare one I had out. It was suppose to be an rj45, but says cat5. I replaced broken cable with my own cat5 and works ok. Costco is having q see send me another cable.

I will keep updated when I get this thing fully up and running.
