It's pretty good tech, wifi based with pretty seamless switch to the Sprint Network when you fall off wifi.

Don't try to mislead a great tech, which no one has master except Republic. It's proprietary and most likely VoiP based so calls originate in data packets and can seamlessly transfer to Sprints network. It works and is about to blow the big boys away. All you can eat for $10 a month, yes you have to buy their Android phones.

I don't get dropped calls. Once I go from wi-fi to Sprints network, it stays there, no going back. it's going to revolutionize this industry me thinks. Call quality suffers slightly but not enough for me to worry about. I was using VoiP before anyone knew what it was except Darpa.

Your not limited to wifi calling. I have free access to the Sprint network when not in a wifi zone. The phone are set up to access wifi if possible. Call origination is where the cost is, so they have a philosophy of getting subscribers to have access to wifi from home or work. This keeps their costs down so we can eat all we want for $10 bucks.

It's cutting edge that's working.

The phones come equipped to bi-pass wifi if you have some important call you need on the sprint network which is more reliable. Hit a button and boom, it's cell.

I will add, on two of these phones I run my 38 yr. old business. Would never think of a compromise, but my son used it (republic beta) for a year before the rest of the family made the jump.

Now, Republic Wireless says it has improved that process. FierceWireless reports that it recruited engineers from Nuance Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN), IBM Corp. (NYSE: IBM), Motorola, and other companies to improve the normalization of codecs between WiFi and cellular. Republic claims the handoff is now seamless on WiFi voice calls, thanks to a proprietary and patented "intelligent predictive algorithm" that determines the handset's location, jitter, and packet loss when a call starts to drop on WiFi. Republic Wireless CEO David Morken told FierceWirelss that the call then gets anchored in the cloud and transferred to cellular within milliseconds.

Republic is great if you don't mind missing a call, message, or text every now and again and having to deal with connection issues and call quality issues infrequently but regularly as it's just the way it is.

The best way to use this service is to get your sprint number and give that out to people as your new number and tell them your RW number is your house number. You won't ever have issues with incoming calls as all your calls will be routed through Sprint and you'll avoid the issues that inevitably show up.

The wifi calling is great when it works like it should but overall the service and call quality is lacking and not reliable.

I know several people who had RW and left for Cricket because of the same issues that kept coming up with phone issues, call quality issues, and connection issues. These phones also route to CHP so if you dial 911 be prepared to be put on hold, have to tell your story twice, and know your address.

It's a great deal if you're short on cash, don't need your phone as a lifeline, or for business/work needs and mainly use it for social interaction and casual use. No one can match their price but you do give up some reliability/call quality for that low price.

A "great tech" would know that RW used VOIP and Sprint is CDMA.

Handoffs from WiFi-->CDMA, CDMA-->WiFi, and WiFi AP-->WiFi AP are not as easy as you would think. This is why VoLTE has been difficult to roll out, and that is handing off from the one technology to the same.

Thanks for the heads up. I had heard of them before on the Leo Lapport show but didn't research much on them.

The wife and I are on Tracfone and so far it's been okay. She has some plan that's 25$ a month and I pay as I need more time. I rarely talk on the phone and send a text maybe once a week.

I hate phones so I want the cheapest possible.
