You can run regular disk like password protected Apple's Time machine with your files and then also back them up regularly to a USB Hard Drive like WD Passport Series. 2GB is like a $99 on ebay, bestbuy, amazon, costco sometimes. You can put that external hard drive in your safe duplicating security of your digital assets. Buy one more and store it in your bank's safety deposit box.

Any recommendations for a drive for this? Will I need to also get some sort of antenna that goes to the outside of the safe in order to get reception? Would it be more reliable to run an eithernet cord back to the router (but worth it since wifi would certainly be an easier install)?

        Thanks everyone!
Off site Backup on a multiple RAID system is the best of practice and least expensive next to DVD's and removable hard drives.

I keep data storage devices in a safe but for backup not access, and even they are vulnerable to destruction. A fire rated safe will get hot enough to melt many items, silicone having a lower melt point would lose data if hot enough.

With a hard drive in a safe you would also need a fan to cool it. and temperature difference from outside temp to inside temps may create condensation.

Good practice is to back up all data that you can't afford to lose. I recommend at least a weekly backup. It is also recommended to back up to multiple storage devices. I back up to a separate portable 1TB Iomega and Western Digital hard drives, DVD & Off site.
