Question: GunVault Nano and similar locked container

So, my in laws decided that it is a good idea for the entire family to have dinner at their place in Hayward in celebration of Chinese New Year this coming weekend. The local criminals are probably aware by now, that during the Chinese New Year celebration weekend, Asians will be walking around with large amount of cash because they hand out these "red packets" with cash in them. Lovely, just what I need for a trip to Hayward at night.

Anyway, I want a buy a locked container like the GunVault Nano 200 so I can keep my pistol in the car without having to keep it in the trunk. Something to let me or my wife grab the Benelli 12 gauge semi-auto in the trunk in case we run into serious trouble. Nothing like some copper plated slugs to ruin a street punk's day if he thought most bullets can't penetrate car doors.

I want to check with you guys, which version of the GunVault Nano will let me keep a full sized Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm with 2 magazines in the box? If you know of another brand/make/model of similar locked container that can do this, please recommend it too.

    Thanks!

The 200 might fit but the 300 would be bit bigger. Plus it has a combo lock so you don't need to be fumbling for the key (like the 300). Or pick up a Minivault that is DoJ approved.

I have the Nanovault200, it fits my unloaded full size 92fs and two spare mags (nothing inserted into the magwell).

Not sure if the PX4 Storm is similar or larger but hope its a good point of reference.

Not sure about the nano vault, but I used a micro vault (MV500) for my full size Px4 with mag inserted, spare mag, and 25 rnd box of HD ammo with no problem.

Bingo! Looks like the MV500 is just a little bigger (about 1.5 and 0..25 inch). Thanks man.

I have two nanos, one keyed and one combo. You can bolt either down to the car but beware the combo lock is a joke. Has a plastic knob that twists right off with pliers. I replicated the part in steel. It should slow 'em down at least. Why the maker doesn't do this is beyond me. Costs I suppose.

Often times these knobs are designed to shear off on purpose, to prevent damage to or failure of the lock mechanism when brute forced. Many Simplex locks are built this way, and they are not cheap. And other times, some makers do it just because they are cheap SOBs

                  MV500 works for me.

Took a plane trip and put a Sig 220 with 2mags and a pocket knife with no problems.

I have 3 identical combo nanos and they all have slightly different lock mechanisms, some with more plastic than others. On one of them the combination bar is flipped so the box has to be rotated the opposite direction from the other two to read the combo. One of them the number dials will not spin past 0 in one direction.

They serve a surpose but are aggravating and of questionable quality.

Following up on this. I ordered the Gunvault NV300 (the one that uses combo) and the Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm Type F fits in with 2 magazines.

Hope this helps if you too are looking for an in-vehicle carry solution when you don't have CCW license. A nice additional insurance when you have to drive through places you're rather not at night.
