    DOH! (magazine question)

"DOH!" is exactly what I said when I dropped my magazine.

To my surprise, the magazine disassembled, parts flew everywhere, and out came the ammo. I recovered the magazine housing, spring, butt plate, and the follower, but I feel I am missing something. All my other magazines for my pistols include a metal plate that goes between the butt plate and the spring.

I tried searching everywhere in my room, but I can't find that metal plate anywhere. So, am I crazy or am I not searching hard enough?

By the way, I can't compare the other magazine to it (its an extended version and disassembly is different). The pistol is a Sig Sauer P224. Picture has been provided to show what I could find.

I'm not familiar with that magazine. I am wondering if a missing picece is the reason it broke apart. Really shouldn't happen.

I thought it shouldn't come apart unless I dropped it from a distance too high. I never taken the magazine apart because its new.

From the looks of it, the end of the spring with a tab should go into that slot on the base pad and you don't need a floor plate insert like the ones in P226 or P229 magazine. I don't think your magazine is missing anything. Put it together and see if the base pad clicks.

It does click and it does not pull apart. It fed normally, but thats without firing. I'm thinking you might right because the spring lines up with the vertical hole. Picture provided.

By the way, I forgot to mention that the users manual does not help. It shows a different butt plate (center push button with a metal plate).

Disassembly works out nicely. I'm confident its complete. Thanks for your input.

The exploding diagram for a P224 shows that it doesn't have a floorplate insert so you are fine.

Yes, you are right. I only checked the magazine disassembly and not the exploding diagram. I appreciate and thank you sir for going out of your way to put the time into researching and helping me.

You're welcome. I was curious too because I own a P226 and P229. The magazines have floor plate insert and I've never had a problem of the magazine coming apart like that. I am not sure if the P224 magazine is an improvement or not.
