Was that in 1988? Long time ago.. Nothing newer? Maybe the training people are discussing is working to stop kill and grabs...

I remember when this incident happened just a few miles from here. Perp fell in behind the guard as he exited the story. Never said a word. Just shot him in back of head, grabbed the bag and split out the back door.

Ambush, shoot n grab, has become the preferred method of robbing Armored Truck Guards.

If you ever see an armored, cash & carry truck pull up to a bank in a 3rd world country, you'll probably see two guys exit at the ready with rifles (in my case they were carrying R4s, the SADF version of the Galil), assess the area and give an all-clear, where-upon two additional personnel will exit the vehicle, one being the bag handler, the second carrying his firearm at the ready and leading the way to the ATM or into the bank. They don't mess around in South Africa, it's a huge problem. Once the ANC was elected into office, they didn't need their gunman anymore and many resorted to armed robberies in order to make a living.

You would think the footage at 3min in was from a bad TV show, but it is reality, zero tolerance for robbers in SA.

*NSFW* That is why I'm not embedding the video, make the jump if you want to watch. It is a South African police ambushing robbers with a decoy truck.

If I see this in the local banks here, I would not be alarm or surprise. I grew up in the Philippines and armed guards there are armed with shotguns and
M16s when they do pick ups and transfers of money.

I drive a truck for a living. Statistically, it's more dangerous than what you do for a living.

You don't see me telling people to just stay away from us truckers so that we can concentrate on doing our jobs... we just do them.

And really, the crap about keep our hands where you can see them....

I don't need to keep my hands anywhere special when I'm around you. If you don't like that, too bad. Get a different job. Yours really isn't all that dangerous.

Cops and security guards, I swear. Think they should be able to walk around armed all day and everyone else should go out of our way to make you feel comfortable.

It's highly classified. If we were to let that sort of information out, hackers might gain access to permit information and the lives of counter sniper operators in certain major retail operations would be at serious risk.

My sons friend works for armored car company and he never upholsters. So he had a fairly heavy bag in one hand and a gun with his finger on the trigger in the other.... He opened the door with his loaded firearm hand? No

Don't blame them, most vulnerable at that point, so long as muzzle is pointed in safe direction I'm totally ok with it. Other countries have armed personnel with long guns in hands both inside and outside banks, larger stores etc. Undoubtedly cuts down on common street criminal opportunists chances of success. Just about ten years ago a transport armed guard near were I bank was shot fatally in head at the start of an armed robbery - guy that shot him was waiting for him to exit bank. Suspect was never caught.

If you read what has been written, he was muzzle sweeping people all over the place.

Bank personal need to be allowed to keep a couple big badass shotguns and/or rifles to break out a few minutes prior to truck's arrival.

With the tech we got today, the bagman could spend transit time reviewing a FastForward version of the last two hours of bank's internal and external security cams before arrival.

With a little minor cooperation from CHP or other statewide LE, and a bit of easy software, they could even run most of the Lic plates in the surrounding areas for Stolen/Mismatch. Robbers always use just stolen cars for heists.
Am I a good shot!?!, YEAH I'M A GOOD SHOT!....i just got bad aim

I used to work for Brinks, never had to unholster my pistol on the job but I know that on certain routes in the bad parts of town, it was common practice for certain stops.

It's all about adapting to the situation and creating the best possible outcome. For example, on one route I had, we picked up cash from a gas station/ smoke shop (single wide trailer on a dirt lot) on one of the reservations. We would pull about 100K from there every single time, we would walk in, grab the money, sign their book and get back to the car as soon as we could and update our book and do the rest of the paperwork from the safety of the armored car. Reason was is, it was in the middle of the woods in an Indian Reservation, so police response was next to not existent, and it had a history of being robbed multiple times.

Depending on the stop, may call for multiple guards, armed with shotguns and or rifles.

I'm more concerned with his finger on the trigger. That's not a safe practice. He could trip on something and we would have an accidental (negligent) discharge.

Did you see Metro Manila by chance? I liked it, though unrealistic, but still an interesting movie. Caught it on Netflix.
