    Places to shoot in Sonora

Going to go up to Sonora in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone had any good places to go shoot up there?

Yep, Motherload Gun Club (between Jamestown and Sonora) is the only legal place other than heading out to the boonies and shooting on BLM land. The club has a 25/50yd range, a 100/200/250 range, a trap pit and a 25yd indoor pistol range. The gun club is open to the public for trap on saturdays starting at 9:30am and every other wednesday at 6:30pm as well as one weekend day per month of high power, cowboy action, and action pistol. Other than that you need to be with a member to enter. PM me and if I'm not out of county, I'll be happy to meet you there and shoot with you. I need a good excuse to get out shooting.

Also if youi REALLY want to go out in the boonies and shoot.. up past Sonora.. and even past Pinecrest. take the Eagle Meadow turn-off and you go about 45min on a gravel road and there is an old uranium hydralic mine that everyone goes to shoot at from time to time... I try to get up there at least once a year when I go to Pinecrest with the family

Does the Motherload Gun Club allow 50BMG? I have been looking for a place to shoot 50BMG around Sonora, but the thread I started in the rifle section turned to so-called assault weapons.

I just talked with a friend who works for the Forest Service and he said the Uranium mine area is closed off for restoration.

Bummer. I thought they had already finished that. Something about repairing or eliminating a collection of small rock damns. Oh well, give it another year or two. Maybe we can get the county to sell a piece of the Jamestown gold mine to the gun club for a 1000yd range?

The range by my house (USI in Concord) is 100-200 yards but shooting the 50 is still fun. Twice a year we have a 50 match on the 200 yard range. Twice a year in Reno the FCSA has a 1000 yard match. Unfortunantly that is the only time I get to shoot at that kind of distance.
