Who uses old socks to store their handguns?

I like the fact that usually one size fits all

Do you guys use other common household items in relation to maintaining your firearms?

For example: Newspapers work great as temp. cleaning mats and ScotchBrite does wonders on scratches for stainless pistols

Be carefull with the cloth stuff as they will collect moisture and rust your guns in a hurry

I make sure they are fresh from the dryer and I always put one of those silica gel packs in it that you get when you buy new shoes

Seriously, I only have 1 or 2 that I put in a sock to prevent scratches. Most of my pistols get range time so they always get used and cleaned at least once a month. I think I'm going to switch to these though for long-term storage = http://www.dsasd.org/store/product_i...bac7a54ed1b44c

Or not... the ones I use are so soaked in oil now that I have to wipe my guns off when I pick them up to go to the range

Those are what I use also. I still try and make a habit to take the guns out every couple of months for a wipe if I don't shoot them.

I only throw my old socks in the rag bin when they are no longer fit for my feet. They are way past being fit for firearm storage at that point.

I definitely use newpaper for disposable cleaning mats & misc. old containers with lids for collecting brass. I have .22 Otis cleaning kits in circular altoids tins and also use altoids tins for storing .22s after the bulk packs are about 1/2 empty or so.
