    Recommendation: Chabot or Richmond?

I've just recently gotten back into shooting, and it looks like I'll be at a job in the East Bay for at least a year. I'm thinking it's time to join a local range. I think that my best options are the Richmond Rod and Gun Club or Chabot. I've been to Chabot numerous times and like it, only been to Richmond once. Here are my considerations:

I'm about 1/2 way between the two, but the roads to Chabot are much slower...would take 30 min to get there vs. 20 to Richmond.

Membership and per day are cheaper at Richmond (50/year, 5/day vs. 60/year, 7/day)

both offer all of the ranges I need and allow all calibers I shoot.

The folks I often shoot with are closer to Chabot and are members there.

I'm leaning toward Richmond, but if any of you have solid input I'll likely base my decision off of that.

I'm a member of richmond and go there at least once a week (usually twice.) I live about 10 minutes away though, chabot takes 40 minutes to get to. One thing that I don't like about chabot is that the RO actually has to come and walk across all the lines and inspect the guns that they're unloaded. It can take 10 minutes sometimes. Richmond is much quicker in that department. However, I went to chabot almost specifically to pattern my mossberg which you can't do at richmond. I also like the benches at richmond better than chabot, the little steel stool isn't too comforitable.

So with all said richmond is more convenient and is where I end up going.
    Please, calm down.

Also there is United Sportsmen Inc (USI) in Concord off of Hwy 4:

I'm a member there. Skeet, trap, 5stand clays, pistol, rifle, action pistol (USPSA style). A bit of a drive, but a great place to shoot. For some things (200yd rifle and action pistol) you need to be a member however.

Unless I'm counting wrong or thier sign was wrong- Richmond is closed Monday, Tuesday and Thursday....which would therefore be 4 days open; unless I misread your post and you mean$5/day..... but it still leaves me wondering when Chabot is closed.......

Here's the TWO best Hi-tech tactical methods I know
        1. Which range is your wife/gf LEAST likely to be able to find you at?
        2. Flip a coin; I'd say flip the spouse but I hear they can get kinda heavy and arnt to found of flipping
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered....

2.)Why is it that if guns are sooooo unsafe that you're 9 times more likely to die at the hands of your doctor?
3.)Remember...Buy it cheap & stack it deep

Yep, I meant $5/day vs $7/day (member rates). AFAIK, Chabot is only open to the public Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, with the 200 range only open fridays.

As for spousal discovery, I don't think she'd ever try to find me at the range...in addition to my little travelling techie job I have a small custom bicycle-work shop. She generally assumes (correctly) that I'm either building some wheels or out for a ride.

I too am only 10 mins away from Richmond. I go there sometimes 2-3 days a week. I shoot IPSC there regularly and occasionally use the Skeet range and slow fire and 200 yard lines. It's mostly a wash though and they both have advantages and disadvantages. USI is a pretty good range, and again, advan and disadvan... In the summertime, USI is hellishly hot while Richmond and Chabot tend to be a tad cooler.

I'd go to Richmond more but from San Leandro 880 is too much of a headache.. sometimes as much as 1 1/2hrs on a weekday vs. 30 min on a weekend to get there.. where as Chabot takes me 25min no matter what day. but I'm basically up at chabot 2 - 3 times a week... sometimes more if I need to get work done on the 200yd line.. then I can shoot afterwards

Depends on what you shoot; for shotgun probably chabot since they don't care what kind of ammo u use whereas richmond i hear you have to use steel shot.

Handguns chabot; they have more options they have a 7-15-25 whereas richmond was pretty solidly 25 last time i was there. USI has 15-25 and relatively inexpensive skeet/trap I think it was 6.25 for non members last time i checked while chabot was 11 bucks i think. No idea what richmond costs. Rifles I'm pretty sure all three ranges are the same 50-100

If you are within 30 minutes or so of Woodland, Yolo Sportsmans Association, membership is $40 single, $50 family, $ 1.00 to shoot rifle and pistol (members rate, $ 8 nonmember), trap and skeet is like $ 4.50 for 25 clays. Sporting clays are $ 11.50 for 50 targets. Fishing pond and small archery range. Not a bad deal at all.

Fyi, Chabot trap is $9 for non-members, $7 for members, and $5 for juniors (under 18). And usually, not much of a wait, if at all to shoot.

Richmond has Trap and Skeet. $3.5o a round for members and $5.00 for non-members. You do have to shoot steel, but ammo is available at the skeet range at reasonable prices. For new shooters, basic instruction is always available at no cost.
