    Help Identify/Value: Mannlicher MCA, Remminton 34, Savage 720

    A co-worker of mine recently inherited some firearms and asked for some help/advice on their condition, value, use and any information I could find.

    One of his goals is to get these in shooting order so his son can fire the same guns as his great grandfather did. At the same time, if there are any know issues with these, we want to lean to the side of caution.

    First Up - a Stoeger Arms Mannlicher MCA in 308 in its original box (beat to hell) that looks darn near brand new. The serial number is 33xxx and is stamped on the receiver and the barrel.

    Reserved for more pics

    Next up - Remington model 34 .22 with serial number 65xxx. This thing is in rough condition with patina/rusty barrel and tube feed. The bolt handle and trigger are chrome. Looks like someone maybe used axle grease as lube long ago on the action. The stock has a small crack under the receiver. Thoughts on cleaning it up vs leaving it be?

      Savage Arms 720 semi-auto shotgun also in rough condition. 26" barrel, water foul engraving, No date, can't find serial number. Pics to come...

      OK, I looked for the "bomb" on the bottom, but no luck. I still can't find a serial number- nothing found on underside near loading port. The barrel did have a "R 47" stamped on it underneath the forearm and a sideways "1" about an inch up from that.

      Looks like the firing pin broke off... where do I start looking for one of those?

        ignore the Winchester s/n info.. but might want to try the gunbroker search instructions I posted recently in another thread..

        and I believe you would call out that Steyr by its name and model, Stoeger is the importer

        gunbroker is not the end all - be all but a good gauge for market values..

        you can check general listings for asking prices to get a rough idea;
        9422m All For Sale

        but checking completed auctions gives you a better idea of what folks are willing to pay;
        9422m All For Sale

        you have to be signed in to see completed auction tab under advanced search.. takes a little time, but you can search the completed auctions to find guns sold, not sold and relisted, top bids placed whether sold or not, and simply bid activity in general to get an idea of model popularity..

        try 94/22 m, 94/22m, 9422m, etc [you get the idea]

        not everyone lists the same.. and you can add winchester and check or uncheck the box to include your search term in the title only or entire ad body to get more or less listing results..

        mind the actual model number or variant, grade, barrel length, stock type or grade, age, condition, etc. for equal comparisons to yours.. pictures in the ads with their descriptions should help you ID you model as well..

        good luck!

          As for the Savage 720;
          S/N should be on the bottom, near loading port.
          Also,check for US mark, or bomb on left side. These were also used as trainers in WWII.

                Regarding the Savage; On the barrel, underneath the forearm would also be a S/N,
                I'm guessing that's where you found the R 47.
                I would use some 0000 steel wool and gun oil to take off that rust. As for a firing pin/striker; they can be found on gunbroker.com. Apparently, there are two different types, a "squareback" or "roundback." Disassembly instructions for the Remington model 11 and Browning Auto-5 are practically the same.
