I've used the silicone treated gun sleeves for over 20 years in a closet, cabinet, and a couple different safes. No problems.
When I do take one out in a foam lined case, I can see the marks from the foam in only a few hours. They're fine after a wipe down, but for long term or even regular storage, I keep 'em in the gun socks. They're pretty cheap, too. Only a couple bucks. Keeps 'em from getting banged up in the safe when pulling them from the back, too.
I use mostly the Bore Store brand, but the other sleeves seem to work just as well.
    Hope this helps.

Ive been using that small one from cabelas in my small safe for over a year and I havent had any problems with rust, you have to bake it in the oven every few days though.

I think that would depend on the foam. I've blemmed a blue finish on acidic foam once. Pelican foam is perfectly safe- even long term.

As mentioned, foam will absorb moisture, so keeping the foam dry is PARAMOUNT. With dry foam, and a GOOD amount of dessicant, no issues in an airtight pelican case.... As I said, my bolt action lives in the pelican for almost 5 yrs now- not a speck of rust.

I do usually wipe it down well with breakfree or oil. I have 3 socks in that case full of dessicant as well. I live in the desert and dont need to worry about the foam absorbing moisture, but I do leave it open frequently in winter when it's REALLY dry in the house. I've gone many months without opening the case, and sometimes I open it every day to dry fire....

Dry pelican foam and pelican case and dessicant = no problemo. Storm or whatever that other brand is that's airtight/water tight... started with an "H" maybe? Was it "hardigg"? Just check the quality of the foam for non acidic..... but should be fine too. I wouldnt trust any other brands though, and I'd check storm/hardigg foam first as well.

Hardigg Storm cases are more or less equal to Pelican cases. I have never owned a Storm case, but I have handled them. People argue over which one is better than the other like chevy/ford, honda/toyota, rem700/win70, etc. I don't have a horse in the race so I won't make a call one way or the other, but I figure the fact that people argue about it so much means they are about equal.

Handle both though, you may prefer one or the other.

The Bear Track Cases are also great looking. They are even more overbuilt than Storm or Pelican cases. They are also what Ed Brown recommends and sells for their custom rifles so that has to count for something. E$pen$ive though.
