    Any Sharps shooters on here?

    I picked up a 45/70 Pedersoli Sharps w/ a 6x Leatherwood Malcome scope
on A.A. for $875.00. {Just immaculate, the guy must have slept with this piece.}It has the ladder rear W/fine adj. I haven't fired it yet ,but it came with a target shown at 200 yards. and 10 holes in a 2" group. {most had a 1.5" pattern with a few flyers} Has anyone shot one of these? Is it really that good?

I have an original Sharps but its just a wallhanger...
I inherited it however so it has sentimental value.

I think if you dig around calguns (or google 'mile shoot, sharps') you'll find some amazing feat of 1-mile shooting w/ Sharps using fancy iron-sight and their pet-loads.

That's some 7-10K hanging on the wall if it's in working condition.

BTW, I, too, have a Pedersoli 45/70 Sharps that came w/ a scope, and I had no problem putting 3 consecutive shots in 1.5" at 100yrd (that's w/ smokeless load I threw up together). The 4th shot went 2in away, and the barrel was very hot. Since then I've changed to peep-sight, blackpowder load, swab bet. shots, and take it slow. The group opened up to 2-3in, but it's more fun this way.

I do want a Pedersoli (or similar) Sharps clone, perhaps w/shorter bbl - I think there's one that's called the "businessman's rifle".

I've really enjoyed shooting my (well, was the late Parag's) 45/70 H&R break-top single-shot "buffalo rifle" with Williams micrometer sights.

Am I a heathen for really wanting a Sharps, but holding out for a stainless one?

I used to own and shoot a gorgeous breech loading caplock (paper cartridge)
Sharps rifle that I sold several years ago. As with all rifles but especially the
large and slow shooters.... a lot of the accuracy is in the loads. Consistency

I have a Pedersoli Quigley replica in 45-120. Nice shooter but I've only shot 20 rounds through it in all years I've owned it.
                      where are my pistol mags?

                            I'm in:

Pedersoli 1874 Sharps "Quigley" 45/70 - I added a set of front and rear Kelley Soule sights from Buffalo Arms:

Expensive in relation to the price of the rifle back when I got them, but less so now with the dollar in the crapper.

I highly recommend getting aftermarket sights for any Pedersoli - the sights that come with 'em are in fact "sights" but are next to useless for dedicated target shooting, even as close as 100yds.

Plan on getting into bullet casting, or making friends with someone who's a nut for it. The difference between shooting properly cast and sized slugs and the store bought slugs are night and day.

All the various Sharp clones can be had in the bigger case versions - 90,110, 120. Unless you have an overwhelming urge to burn extra powder, or are working the 1000 yd line for fame and fortune, stick with the 45/70. The 70 is the most efficent of the bunch, and with good cast slugs is as accurate as can be way the hell out there.
