    I miss quieter times

It has been really hard for myself and moderators to deal with every single post that may get out of hand with increased traffic. Some posts are downright not warranted at all.

Think about what you post before you do it. This place is only as good as people make it.
Everyone has an opinion but my wish is for people to convey their ideas in a thoughtful and civil manner. There should not be a point where anyone is posting information that goes abreast of the law. This site is for discussion of legal topics. This site is open to the public and your statements can be viewed and even searched later at any time by anyone.

I like the idea of having a place to go when I have a second away from the kids, it used to be that weekends were pretty boring at Calguns now I think we have a added a bunch of good guys that show up.

I think we have a better overall board, more Cops, Lawyers, Vets and some really great younger guys.

Some of the other guys left because of the tin foil but overall I think the board has alot more going on.

Anyone remember the Cop that used to post here. Deputy something or another, to bad he doesnt come around more often he seemed like a good guy who was about as pro-gun as any of us.

Naw, I like it better now.

      I really dont post much...

But I've been reading through this board for quite some time now...At first this place was great because I could get some really useful information and chat with some good people who know their stuff...But lately, I've been getting kind of irritated. For me it seems like there are a lot of people here out to just cause problems and get in peoples faces about stupid crap, like they have nothing better to do. Some things are just being taken way out of hand and there are a lot of people on here being pretty childish. I'm pretty knew to owning my own guns, but not new to guns in general. I come on here to learn about new products and new laws taking affect, and also to hear what people have to say about these laws, and hey maybe even make a few friends along the way...I don't come on here to read the posts about how "so and so did this, and now hes big idiot" and "you spelled "The" without a capital "T" and it was at the beginning of a new sentence, now your're a big dumbass". Come on guys, Grow up. Lets be a little more responsible and helpful to one another, and if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all...This is a Pro Guns online forum, and we represent a lot of gun owners to some degree...Lets show them we're not just a group of gun totin' idiots...but we are a group of responsible adults or to be adults fighting for our rights and standing up for our sport/hobby that we love...

Up until the OLL event Calguns had an 'extended family' kind of feel. Most forums have a different feel then Calguns had. Go to THR, ArfCom Assaultweb, or Gunsnet, all fine forums but most feel like your yelling in a crowd. Calguns always had more of the sitting around talking with your friends feel.

Things have calmed down a bit and we're starting to feel somewhat more like what it was but I doubt that 'front porch chat' feel will ever come back entirely. But change and growth happen, the deciding factor is what we do with it and how we handle it. We've lost some good people and picked up some good people over time, hopefully some of the good ones will wander back and start posting again.

Calguns is changing and growing, some of it's growth spurts have been uncomfortable but we've gotten through them, we'll get through the next ones too. As I said in another post recently, I got here shortly aftr the doors opened and liked it, I intend to stay until Ramon turns out the light for the last time.

Oh, 6172crew, I think the Deputy guy you're thinking of is Deputy Al. I still have his PM to me on another forum where he asked about "..that California board in your sig". He was concerned since he'd been slammed for being an LEO on other boards and wanted to know what Caslguns was like. He was a good guy.

Kestryll, I feel the same as you do in spite of not being a member as long as some of the others. It is still better than the other sites, but I think you are right about losing that "extended family" feeling. As always, time will tell.

The OLL thing has only very tangentially affected me. I've made the conscious decision to avoid all the OLL threads, so the only time I've run across any of it has been OT posts in other threads. I've been aware of it going on around me, but just as distant noise. For those of you that are tired of it, I'd suggest avoiding those particular threads and enjoy Calguns like it (almost) used to be.

I miss gudel leading us in choruses of Kumbaya.

The forum certainly has changed in the last 7 months but it has also played an important role as the central clearinghouse for the whole OLL thing.
Since it doesn't appear that "the controversy" will be over soon, I suspect the forum will continue to grow and change.

              It's just progress.

I first registered before all of the OLL stuff but all I did was read, I didn't post. The increased activity on the board has caused me to get more involved.

Theres so much tin foil, I think I need to buy some reynolds just to blend in.

Also, I've been noticing a large number of the really younger crowd who are not even old enough to purchase. Which can mean that we can continue our cause.

I also have been noticing some increase in racial issues.

I use to visit the boards a year or two ago and noticed the influx of more liberal members since this whole OLL thing started, not that its a bad thing

I've been around here since very early on. I have enjoyed many hours of internet time on this site. I even posted from the war in '03. I have met several very interesting folks, and even had dinner and shot with a few. The OLL thing did twist things a bit, but I think in a good way. There has been a great deal of discussion and debate, as well as getting alot of poeple to read the law and understand the circumstances.
