Weekend Range - LAX Area

I have some friends coming in to town tomorrow. We're considering going to the firing range.

Besides LAX Firing Range, what are my options? I googled, but would like first hand experience. Weekend crowds will be BAD regardless where I go.

Angeles in Glendale is a little ways away. It's a nice range, if you're not a reloader and don't mind them picking up your spent brass.
Tends to be packed on the weekends, but get there early and you'll be fine.

Are you allowed to pick up your own brass at Angeles? I have only shot there once on a private range and we did pick up all of our brass but I have never been on their lines.

You can pick up your own brass, but you cannot pick up others brass.

Yes, you can pick up your own brass. If you don't do it somewhat quickly though, the ROs will often sweep it up. I think Angeles is a great range. I was there today and the RO actually asked me if I wanted my brass before he swept it up.

Yes you are. The only brass that you cannot pick up is brass that belongs to other shooters. I have been told that even if other shooters give you permission to, the RO's there will hassle you about not picking it up...not sure if its true or not.

If you intend on picking up your brass, do it fast. The second to last time I shot there, I caught the RO sweeping up my brass whenever I was looking down my scope...despite the fact that I was clearly picking it up myself. He thought he was being sneaky by sitting in his stool and extending the broom in my direction.
If you plan on shooting there, pick up your brass after every magazine, and get as far away from the RO's as you can. Only 1 of the 3 RO's there asked me if I wanted to pick up my own brass.

LAX range and Sharpshooters are the closest to LAX.
Insight is a good place.

I work Sunday 12 to 5 at the Firing Line in Burbank. Let me know you're from Calguns when you come in.

The range is more strict than others in the area. You need to make sure that for every 1 noob in your group, you have one person who's experienced enough to hold their hand. And we will require you to demonstrate loading and unloading a pistol with snap caps without muzzle sweeping anyone in the room.
