    advice on a d.a. pistol

Just got news that my job won't allow me to carry anymore single action firearms while on duty. Kinda lame if you ask me considering I've been carrying a RIA 1911 for the past couple years with no problems but there giving me ample time to switch but I'm not trying to dish out a whole lot for something I'm kinda forced to buy...
I asked HQ and they said they'd allow double/single actions since I have a c&r the 92fs was top on my list just because it's chosen by agencies around the world, and after transfer fee I'd be in the ball park under $350 hopefully less.

Wanted to ask if anyone had anymore suggestions about good double action pistols for service weapons that aren't such a burden on finances. I work outside in low income areas, never had to use my firearm but others have so reliability and durability for the firearm need to be good. Caliber's I can choose from are 9mm, .40, .45, .357,.38 and I can request more time if the price range is outside my budget of $350, so I'll do a bit of budget hunting to show them how much time I'd need to make the switch.

Maybe a sig sp2022? I have no complaints with mine in 40s&w, though I don't carry it(not le or anything).

Comes in 9mm or 40s&w/357 sig(if you buy the 357 barrel, mags are interchangeable).

New is around 450 but I've seen used ones in good condition with extra mags go for 400 here.

It doesn't have a manual safety, if that's a requirement for your job. Only a decocker.

If you can get a 92fs for at or under 350 you really can't go wrong, though.

Idk I think id need a saftey/decocker. Question as I don't own a gun with a decocker and had to look it up, it can still fire when you decock it huh? I think they're going to want me to have something they know can have preventative fire measure when holstered and since we do a lot of running through alleys to unit and I smack my duty belt on things I'd need to have that piece of mind as well. Is their a grip safety? cause that will do, I really like sig's man that'd be sweet

Decocker just drops the hammer safely, setting you up for a double action next shot.

From what little research I gathered, the sig pro(now sp2022) was designed with LE in mind as a glock competitor.

And yeah, the decocker allows you to safely drop the hammer on a live round so your first shot is d/a. Essentially, it's like a glock at that point, so if you're allowed to carry a glock you should be fine.

          per Wikipedia:

The standard SIG Pro does not have a manual safety but it does incorporate a decocking lever (lowers the hammer without striking the firing pin), trigger-bar disconnect (disconnects the trigger when the slide is out of battery), automatic firing pin lock (does not free the firing pin until the trigger is depressed) and a hammer safety intercept notch (prevents the hammer from striking the rear of the firing pin until the trigger is depressed).

got it, can you do 9mm barrel swap as well with the .40? that's just for fun factor and is 450 about the California price? or online? I'll try and ship/transfer as well, learned my lesson after I paid close to 600 for the RIA (turners)

I don't think so without getting a barrel conversion kit. Or so I read. I was curious about the same thing.

The .40 can be swapped with a factory .357 sig barrel from sig. Supposedly as simple as ordering it online and dropping it in, though I haven't tried it. It also uses the same magazine as the 40 so that's nice.

I'd recommend going with the 9mm version if you want 9mm versus getting the 40 and trying to make it work with 9mm. If you're leo and mag exempt, the 9 holds 15 vs 40s 12.

As for price, I bought mine 2 years ago at turners with night sights and a laser for 499. I've seen them recently advertising 449 w/o laser. I'd recommend looking around your area for the best deal opposed to online cause xfer fees will bite you unless you find a really screaming blowout deal. It's a fairly popular/common gun so it shouldn't be hard to find. That, or check the fs section here. See them go up for good prices often enough.

I think the SIG 2022 is a great value...and the de-cocker is easy to use. They are very accurate and their DA first shot is excellent. I really like the 357SIG chambering for duty, but a 9mm would work fine.

Didn't realized they'd gone up that much on price. Impact Guns has a .40 2022 for $390. What happened to the ones for $300-$350?

If you can get a Beretta 92 for $350 and it fits your hand, it is also an excellent choice

One more vote for Beretta. 92FS is a really fine piece of equipment. I love mine.

Are you a cop or armed guard or something else?

I worked for a guard company and we had similar edict but it turned out the Big Cheese didn't know WTF he was talking about and it all came from mis-understanding of the insurance company.

What they didn't want was old cowboy SA guns. Like someone is gonna use that as their duty weapon.

No one knows if a Glock is single or double, or a "1.5 action" gun.

If money is an issue I'd ask if your 1911 is OK, not "Do I need to get a DA gun like headquarters says?"

Sig P226 is probably my all time fav SA/DA pistol. Is striker fire an option? Could go with an M&P or Glock. Those won't break the bank. Or a Sig 320 for that matter.

Sig Sauer Pro series SP2022 is worthy of consideration for purchase, as is the Beretta.

CZ-75 is available in 9mm and .40SW and is a very good buy for a service weapon. Maybe the best value around is the Springfield XD-tactical available in both 9mm and .40.

Both the 2022 and the beretta are fine guns. In my experience (personal, side by side plinking at the range) the sig is more accurate.

I'd go with the sig vs the 92 for that reason alone.

                              YMMV
