How many BARRELS can a pistol or rifle legally have?

I'm pretty sure a two barreled rifle is legal even in CA.

What about a 7 barreled pistol or rifle (6 around 1)?

    I'm thinking of a "Long Range Shotgun" with 7 x .357 or 7 x 22mag.

Does it matter (legally) if they all fire at once?

I don't think it matters as long as only 1 round is fired with every pull of the trigger. But I def could be wrong on that one. I've never looked it up.

IIRC some two barreled big game rifles and two barreled shotguns can fire both barrels at once, but maybe a two barrel/shot limit.

You can fire both rounds at once on a double barreled rifle. Though you'd be pulling both triggers. Other than having to pick yourself up from the floor, there'd be no repercussions.

That would be a multi barreled rifle. Out of curiosity, what is the use for such a firearm especially if it fired all barrels at once?

              1)General WTF? appeal

2)Like I said, Long Range Shotgun. Taking a crack at ducks at 100+yds.

I'm thinking of designing it as a combo 357/22mag with over and under barrel clusters. 16.1" barrels shouldn't be too heavy for the occasional hoisting and shouldering.

              Also for HD of course.

If there are two triggers and you pull both of them at once then it's the same as if you had a gun in each hand and pulled both triggers at the same time. Only one round fired per trigger pulled.

I think a 3 or 4 barreled 9mm derringer would be cool. Line up 2 triggers in front and 2 in back, pull them all at once, it's be like a little pocket shotgun.

Exactly what I was thinking. Also is it even legal to take a duck with centerfire/rimfire ammunition?

I don't think so, also no lead (anywhere in the US) for duck hunting.

OP, you may find the recoil from seven .357 Magnum rounds going off at the same time a bit more than you can handle. And yes, multiple rounds fired with one pull of a trigger is NOT okay with CA DOJ or BATFE without the proper paperwork.
