What range are we talking? Under 150 yards I would go with my ar15 for quick follow up shots due to closer range. Over 150 yards I would have to go with my 1965 Winchester model 70 in .270 for more precise shot placement.

If you own a pistol, shouldn't you be able to make headshots at that distance?

Why a headshot you may ask...potential for body armor, imminent threat to the victim they are standing over with a gun in hand, with no expectation of them standing still for the follow on shot...yeah, headshot.

So I would use my pistol as that is more quickly at hand and I can confidently put rounds on a 5" plate at up to 21 yards.

Fortunately the likelihood of such a scenario is quite remote. But I might point out that the 2nd Amendment exists specifically to enable self-defense of ourselves and our countrymen. You are advised -- and, in Revolutionary times, depending on your age and sex you might have been required -- to have a "go to" firearm for such a situation.

Any semi-auto centerfire rifle would do. They both had rifles, I would want one as well. If all you had was a handgun you might be able to pin them down, maybe score a few hits but at distance on a moving target while you're under stress that's a long shot unless you are an exceptional pistol shot. Basically if all I had was a handgun I would just try to pin them down and not get shot, if I had a shotgun you could send a hail of buckshot at 'em and hope some hit 'em in the face above their body armor, if you had a semi-auto rifle you could do it easily and take them both out before they knew you were there.

The main problem would be the return fire, obviously. I mean your walls are not going to absorb a hit from a 7.62x39 round, or any round for that matter. You'd need to take a few shots and then duck out of the way, like wayyyyyy out of the way, and if there was another window you'd need to move to that. Eventually they'd probably just shoot up the whole facade of the building, but hopefully you got 'em by then.

Quick decision would be an AR15 with an Aimpoint T1. I like what Chief said, but almost anything outdoors, except for someone trying to rip me from my truck, it'll be a rifle. I wouldn't bother filming anything If I felt threatened. I would however film a dead intruder in my house. From several angles.

I'd go with an ar. You would need to make sure that first shot count if you miss and they identify you you are screwed. You will get 60 rounds of 7.62 your way and I dont think some stucco and drywall is ideal cover.
