Does you Insurance co want pictures ?

Expanding my policy for firearms, and Ins company tells me they are needing pictures & serial #. I understand the numbers, but....

So question is, did you also have to do this for your policy coverage ?

The proof is in the pics. anyone can furnish Serial numbers of things that don't really belong to them.

Huh...I've had this Ins co for a long, long time and this is the first I've heard of this.

Was just curious to see if others had to do this.

Mine just wanted serial numbers and models. I decided to skip the insurance based on that. If you are willing to give serial numbers, might as well give pictures too.

My insurance company for autos wanted photos of my RV when I bought it. So I drove it to them and let them shoot away. Don't really see the issue. Might as well have them take photos and prove you own them and they are in good condition.

Get a different insurance company for firearms. Collectibles Insurance is fairly decent.

Which would you pay more for if you were the insurance company?

                  This?

                    Who is your insurance company?

When you take out a "rider" on something, it's not uncommon for an insurance company to want documentation on it, pictures, etc. to document it's worth.

If you aren't comfortable with this, find someone else to insure your guns. Someone already mentioned CollectInsur. And they are probably tons cheaper than your regular company. They also won't ask for serial numbers or pictures.

With the above said, you should have photos of your guns and all household assets anyway...stored securely in case your house burns down, etc.

Mine asked for photos. I also did a rider for some of the wife's jewelry; they wanted pictures, and an jewelry appraiser to "describe / classify" each piece.

You are asking an insurance company to insure a specific piece of property, of a specific value, perfectly valid for an insurance company to ask for some kind of documentation that shows ownership and condition; a picture does that job very nicely.

My experience has been with the major carriers they require pictures above a certain individual value or above a cumulative value and a few even required appraisals.

You can also copy someone else's photo and claim it's your own. What proof r u talking about?

Back in 1994 a LA friend took all his broken audio gear and made a earthquake damage claim. He got a check for $15,000 and got to keep all the stuff to sell off too.

That thief belongs in jail and you need new friends.

Insurance fraud is theft, and thieves are the scum of the earth.
