    End of 80% builds?

Just saw this post from gunfighter tactical about ATF changing the rules about 80% builds. Is this the end of 80% as of now? Hows the ATF gonna make changes on the laws without going through HOR?

No. It appears that the ATF is saying that machine shops can't let you use their equipment for compensation.

Revolution is when you figure it out for yourself.

Pretty sure the ATF is just trying to put a stop to shops renting out their machines to people to finish their 80% lowers.

Just build your 80 yourself and you wont have a problem.

But Hasn't that ruling been in effect for quite sometime now? Only thing new I see on the letter is that machine shops/gunshops are now allowed to finish 80's giving they are licensed to build but required to serialize what they finish.

I have built my own with all my own equipment. I plan on building more in the future, just wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking any laws as of now.

From the wording, it sounds like they have been skirting this ruling by the technical definition that the ATF provided for a firearm. They said that if any operations in the fire control area have been performed on an 80% lower reciever than that reciever would then technically be considered a firearm. Once it was a firearm and no longer an 80%, a person could take it to a gun smith for some "gun smithing" where they would complete the machining. I'm not 100% sure that is what was going on, but all the info seems to indicate that was what they are trying to stop along with "build parties"

I say build on. Build many. Keep them on the DL just in case the ATF decides to rule them as non legal. If your really concerned about having issues, just register a couple of your 80 lowers to use when you go out. Keep your others handy for when you need them.

It's the end of paying someone else to finish your 80% for you. Which has always been outside the spirit of the original enabling legislation, the 1968 Gun Control Act.

The same law authorizes and requires the BATFE to make precisely these sorts of determinations, which is why no additional legislation is required.

I bought a mill to support my shop equipment and my hobbies finishing 80%ers is a by product of that.

In your garage, with your own tools still seems to be GTG. Using a CNC that you don't own, and paying the owner, not so much.

Nothing's changed. Like others have said just make sure you do it yourself with your tools. Gtg
