Chest shots were 10 points and anything outside of the chest was 5 points. Miss the black, 0 points. Total possible points was 300.

Expert score was 275+, Distinguished Expert was 290+ fired at least 5 times.

I used to shoot DX consistently. I still do pretty good. I never shot less than 250. They've changed the course of fire over the years, but I'd like to be able to fire the course again. I still shoot my revolvers better than any of my pistols. If I'm not in the black, I'm not happy.

I practice at distances from 3-50 yards, just to cover all aspects and possibilities.
The qual sounds like it had the same general flavor as PPC. If I'm reading that right, all shooting was done at 25? Seems like nowadays PDs have greatly restricted "long distance" shooting at 25. The lowest common denominator thing.

I'm not your Dad, but just a note, shooting at damaged steel like that is likely to produce troublesome ricochets.

That is completely ridiculous... great shooting. I'm happy if I hit 1 or 2 in the middle with 50 rounds at 25 yards.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Dang that's impressive! Now just think how much better it would be with an Isosceles Stance.

I was just wondering this today at the range. I was pretty happy that 50% of my 10 shots went inside the 9 and 10 rings with a 9mm. Almost felt like a waste of time and ammo to be shooting 9mm pistol at that distance.

Fascinating thread! Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge.

I am a fairly new shooter, who on a good day can shoot 3" groups at 7 yards. Haven't tried 25 yards yet, except a couple of times with metal targets. I need a lot of practice. Like someone mentioned, I too find my accuracy better with a smaller target, like just one dot on a piece of paper.

at the distance I shoot my AR pistol with a red dot.

Now at 2.5 yards I'd be all over a paper target with my .45 or .357 pistols. When I say "all over" I mean all over the place. I can't shoot a hand gun worth a darn but I'm trying.

Yes, thanks! I think stock pistols aren't made to shoot at shorter distance, I think it's a matter of physics...primarily barrel length, and the combination of caliber projectiles and powder loads.

Dang! 25-yards...!?! What a LOOOooonnngggg way for me to go... I'm barely making par the 3rd of that...

Attached are my groups at 8-yards during my 3rd indoor range with my own Glock 22, and first times with a XD9 and PX4 (range rentals).

Been doing some Dry Practice (with the SiRT and Dry Fire Mag) - and would see how that translates to this Sunday's class at Burro.

                            Cheers!

I have a Smith & Wesson model 52-2 that gets angry with me when ever I put a round outside of the 10/X rings on the NRA B-8 target during the 25 yard timed fire stage. I have shot the stage clean in practice and have more than a couple 198-199 scores in competition.

I load it with a 158gr duel end wadcutter sitting over 3.0grs of bullseye. It is a very soft shooting load that loves to rip out the center of targets.
