    Cerakote

I'm looking to possibly either have my AR professionally done or do it myself using the cerakote paint system. Does anyone know or some the cerakote and its durability? And has anyone or know anyone who's applied the paint themselves? And what was the outcome. Thanks 😉

I bought the kit direct from them. 280.00. If you have a sandblaster with clean media and follow the instructions to the letter you will have an awesome finish!a couple things I learned, if you think you put too much on then you probably did. It goes on easy and only takes a light coat. Practice how you are going to hang the parts to transfer to your oven before you do it. Also practice on some 5/8 nuts and bolts. It is amazing stuff. Check with your significant other before you use the oven. Or do what I did and find a cheap one on Craigslist and sell it or keep it when done. Have a couple friends go in on it with you to lessen the cost. It's actually a lot of fun to do. My first attempt went on a little heavy but the finish is awesome and super durable.

Oh and watch out, once you do it you will be looking for more stuff to coat. Remember it is good for more than guns!!!

Like any paint job, 80% of the outcome comes from the prep work (the 20% comes from the quality of paint & skill applying it, IMO).

I've seen some decent looking guns but they started flaking after a short while because they were not prepped correctly. Do you homework with that and a cerakote finish will last a long time and can take quite a bit of abuse.
