COLT 1911 38 SUPER THREE DIGIT

Disclamer: 1. I am not an Armslist fan. 2. I don't have the money to explore this. But, if I did, I would look into this Colt .38 Super 1911 from 1929. The ad says it is in California.

Its been refinished. But still a good price unless in looks different in person.

I see that it's listed as a "Double Action". Does that mean that it is super duper double probation extra-rare???

Razr, what do you see that makes you think it has been refinished?

If it is too good to be true, it probably is. It looks too good for its age. I could be wrong once I see it in person.

                  Where is California, California?

                  Does he take money order?

IMO, if he says shipping only it's a trap, he might be trying to rip off a Mexican.

If the gun really is $2540, it's worth the drive where ever in CA he is though.

                    It is somewhat interesting.

anyone interested better put their hands on it before buying..

someone is either incredibly naive or simply ignorant of the value of a 1929 Colt 38 Super 3 digit serial in that condition with box and papers.. I doubt it's refinished given the presence of the box..

well we already determined it's a fake ad, so no need to talk more about "buying" it. so many clues that it's a scam - "double action"? "California city, California"? The Nigerian scammers have been having a field day on armslist selling fake pythons -- looks like they've branched out to other guns now.

still let's take this opportunity to pass along some collecting knowledge for early Colt Super 38s:

This picture tells us a couple of things. The first is that the gun pictured is indeed an early Colt Super 38. You can tell by the rollmark on the slide, specifically the second line with the dates. On early Colt Super 38s the dates are more squished together. On "Sept 9, 1902" the "2" begins before the "C" in "MFG. CO." above it. Later slides will have the "2" shifted to the right and the "C" in "CO." will begin before the 2 does.

However, the box bottom with the target is incorrect for a vintage Colt box of this era, so the box is incorrect.

From what I can tell in the picture I do not believe the gun to be refinished. The lines are crisp and we can still see the "VP" in the trigger guard (which normally is the easiest thing to buff out during a refinish).

This is the wrong magazine for an early Colt Super 38. The first magazines from early production were simply marked ".38 Auto Colt". After about serial #2500 they changed to what you see above "Colt Super 38 Auto".

So even if the ad itself were legit, you have a couple of things wrong with the gun -- wrong box, wrong magazine. And the strangest of all -- why no picture of the serial number? The big draw for this gun is the 3 digit serial number, yet no picture of it?

                          As always "buyer beware!"
