Bipods....What's Available Besides Harris?

'Looking to get a bipod for my Mossberg Patrol. I know Harris seems to be highly regarded but I'm not fond of the attachment technique where the sling attachment point is used. And while Harris has an swivel adapter for their pods so they can attach to a Picatinny rail, all that does is provide a sling attachment point for the bipod itself. Seems like a lot of extra hardware.

I've found the Caldwell AR bipod which attaches directly to a Picatinny rail and also has swivel and cant ability. And it doesn't put an unnecessary sling mount in the middle of the whole mounting system. All I'd have to do is mount a short Picatinny rail to the stock. Does anyone have any experience with this bipod and how would you rate it?

Blackhawk seems to use nothing but the swivel mount.

Others I've seen: GG&D, Atlas, Leapers/UTG, Versa-Pod, NcStar, Vanguard

I have the Caldwell, it's fine for what you want to use it for.

Had a utg with quick rail release. Was ok, but returned it because of fore/aft wiggle in the legs.

When buying cheap bipods make sure you get adjustable cant. Nothing more annoying than a non adjustable that is crooked.

Harris type bipods are probably the fastest to deploy. Atlas bipods offer the most flexibility, especially when shooting from uneven surfaces. The legs can be stowed in both directions but they are a much slower to deploy because of it.

I prefer the Atlas for their compactness, I didn't need the speed and because I was getting tired of getting pinched by the Harris' type legs when collapsing them.

I have a Caldwell on my 10/22 and while it works as advertised you can definitely tell the difference in quality compared to the Harris.

I have one coming today! Heavy duty and has positive lockup instead of the "friction lock" of the Harris style.

6.5"-12.5" range.

It can get very low and stable with a very wide base or be more upright like a typical bipod - it can do "the splits"

I have an ATLAS and GG&G, both make the Harris that I have (with pod-claws attached) look like trash. Now don't get me wrong, the Harris is the gold standard and coupled with something like the pod-claws, its a great bipod, it just pales in comparison to the other two.

I've never been a huge fan of the Harris. I prefer my atlas any day of the week.
That being said, I've been on the wait list for a Bobro for about a year and a half now. I'm not really expecting to actually get one, but it won't hurt to try.
