    PPQ issue or bonus feature

I have been using my PPQ M2 5" for competition and there have been a number of times were the slide dropped automatically after I slapped the mag during reloads. I am sure I have not touched the slide release during those times.

I actually like it as it is one less movement to think about during course of fire.

just wondering if anybody else has same experience.

This has been discussed a million times and is not unique to your gun.

It works until the time you really need it to, then it doesn't and you don't know what to do.

Happens on both my VP9 and my Ruger SR9. Sometimes my M&P as well.

Used to happen to my old Hipoint before I sold it a long long time ago, never happened to anything else I own(CZ75 SP01, P226Mk25, USP45, Glock19Gen3, Glock17Gen4, VP9, PPQ M1). The PPQ had a weird problem that only happened to me that never happen with similar mag release, I would shoot shoot shoot and all of a sudden the mag would drop free. I figured it was my index finger accidentally hitting the mag release but I am not 100% positive.

Apparently this unintentional magazine release is a common problem in the PPQ M2. Purchase of the following kit and replacement of the magazine release springs MAY solve the problem. I replaced mine today ( I had 6 unintentional magazine releases before replacement) with much stronger magazine...

The VP9 is designed to do this and I would assume the PPQ is also.

Ahh thanks, I guess I'll do some research and invest in a possible fix. Maybe this is why they moved onto M2.

My SP 01's can do that. In a competition I don't mind it a bit. Give a little harder slap to make it happen.

                    It's a polymer frame thing

Polymer flexes. Slap it at an angle and there you go.

Not just a polymore thing. I've seen it happen with several 1911's and other non polymor pistols.

When you slam a loaded mag in with enough force it lifts the slide and rides over the catch or when the slide is pushed up it takes the pressure off the catch. The slide catch is engaged on an empty mag and holds the slide open. So when the slide is locked back and you slam a loaded mag in with enough jolt it really isn't much different then when the gun functions on a full mag. Normally the pressure pushes the slide back and the recoil spring returns it. Think of it this way when the slide is held back it's half way through its cycle and the recoils spring is under intense pressure. A couple things are happening here, there's pressure on the recoil spring which tell the slide to come back to battery, the catch normally doesn't engage on a loaded mag, and you slam a loaded mag in while the slide is open with the right amount of force needed to finish the job, remember it's half way there already, really the hard part was already done.

I think a big part of it is the way slide catch's are designed to engage on an empty mag. When you insert a full mag it's kind of like telling the catch I'm not needed. Combine that with the force from inserting the mag and the pressure from the recoil spring and the gun thinks I'm suppose to return the slide now. Guns are designed with a light bit of wiggle room in their tolerances and that also plays a part in this, if they weren't designed that way they wouldn't be as reliable.

Only works on my SP 01's. Not my Glocks or Walthers.
