    Moving To Calif. With AR15

    looking for some confirmation:
Daughter is moving back here after several years in Oregon and she has a legal (once it gets a Bullet Button) Noveske AR15 and a few unfinished receivers. Am I correct that she has 60 days to register with DOJ by mailing in the $19 form for voluntary registration and that's all she needs to do? I told her she has to leave the full capacity mags in Oregon, unfortunately.

Correct, presuming those unfinished lowers are also 'off list'.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thanks, Librarian. I'll call her to confirm about the possible off-list issue.

If she can't find a bullet button by tomorrow when she leaves, could she just simply remove the mag release to be legal bringing it here?
I sorta recall Bill Weise mentioning that if a mag can be just held in place, it is still considered removable, or was I dreaming.
These whacky laws here, I tell ya.

The reason for using a magazine lock such as a Bullet Button is to create what California law defines as a "fixed magazine." Removing the mag release completely would not accomplish that in any way.

            tl;dr version: No.

I would not go there. The law provides that a "fixed" magazine is what is required to effectively be exempt from the AW requirements.

Removing the mag catch would produce an excessively "loose" magazine, just the opposite of what the law requires.

I know that sounds counter-intuitive. This is California, get used to it.

Remove the pistol grip and stock, and separate the upper receiver. (Don't lose the little detent & spring under the pistol grip). Then you should be good to go until you can get a PG.

Basically, you are removing the evil features until you can get the BB.

                  Not good advice.

In the unlikely event that such would be detected and challenged, defending that would cost thousand$. It's possible, even probable that, with good representation, one would win the case.

Good representation is $400-$500 per hour, and it would take more than one - for the lack of a $20 part.

Okay, wow. She is going shooting today with Lorina Noveske, maybe she can get her a button, or else leave the rifle until next trip. Then will she will probably have to get the new Calif. safety cert for all firearms? Edit:
Problem solved, she is going to have a new Calif compliant one made instead, just to avoid any issues.
