Just wanted to ask if any gunners had any experience with one of these German single action revolvers, called a Herbert Schmidt model 21. It looks solid enough, not quite as solid as a Single Six but more so than a Rough Rider. Saw it at a local shop and wondering if it was worth the ~200 tag.

i have one myself, but it is old and in bad condition
i wouldnt pay more than a bill for 2 of emLast edited by Tripper; 12-26-2014, 8:51 PM. -
A little overpriced, depends on if it is in good condition and if you're willing to pay that much + fees for one. The fees really kill any good gun deals in CA.
Same gun wouldn't be $150 out here.Saturday Night Special Expert

I have an old Reck R12 that is presently a box of parts. I was doing some research on it a couple of months ago and if I remember correctly, it is the same as the Herbert Schmidt under a different name. It is poorly made, prone to breakage and parts are hard to find. I think it went for $25 brand new. Knowing this, I was able to find some of the broken parts and put some money into it. Not a lot, but too much as far as I'm concerned. I think I'll take it into the next gun buyback. I would pass on the H S. Way overpriced.Comment

Herbert Schmidt SA .22 revolver?
I was wanting to rebuild mine too and found it just cost too much to do,
Here's mine right now
(Edit: Removed, Updated better pics in later post)
My grips were held on with duct tape
I've soaked all the parts in kroil, and now can't get the trigger to work properlyLast edited by Tripper; 12-28-2014, 5:01 PM.Comment

Herbert Schmidt SA .22 revolver?
I bought a spring kit from bobs guns, I can give a link if you like, post a couple pics of what you got, I use mine for hunter education courses, just for show, so not really concerned with its condition, I don't plan on shooting it anyway, just want it functional
Oh bobs is the only place I found that had anything for it, and he is running low on parts too.Comment

Actually, I came across an R12 in perfect condition on some auction site with both the 22lr and 22 magnum cylinders and it went for $99. So nothing to get excited about. The frame on these things is some zinc alloy (pot metal?) and the working parts are soft steel that doesn't wear too well.Comment

I'll get a better picture off if the bubble wrap I suppose, I do have a new set of grips (with the buffalo on them)Comment

The hammer and trigger on yours are the same as the one's I bought from Bob's. My hammer and trigger are a slightly different style that accommodate a blocking plate (not sure what to call it) that prevents the hammer from falling unless the trigger is pulled. I might check with Bob's again. He said that he had different style hammers & triggers if needed.Comment
