CSI and the Police Just Left my Home

Nobody can ever tell me I am paranoid again. I am still shaking, and am going to get the heck out of here for the night.

Someone knocked on my door at about 9:15 tonight. I looked through the peep-hole, didn't recognize them. Went back to my room, and the knocking started getting aggressive, and turned into pounding.

Lesson folks: Always have your home defense weapon loaded. Don't get lazy.

The only firearm I had loaded and ready to go was an AK47-22. Just my freaking luck, I came back home from the range and didn't reset my .45. What are the freaking odds?

Grabbed it, chambered a round, crouched in a good location about 30 feet from the door. Then a very strong kick pushed the door almost all the way through the jam. I took a breath and was sure that I was about to take a life. In the moment I was focused, but as soon as the dispatcher told me to put down my firearms and come to the door with my hands in view, the adrenaline hit me. (Criminal ran off before getting through door, and I stayed on the phone with the dispatcher until police arrived)

Don't ever let anyone tell you it can't happen to you. And don't have your only loaded weapon be your freaking plinker toy.

There is no way I am sleeping tonight.

No idea. Didn't recognize him, he had to be 10 years younger and not someone from my social or economic circle.

I moved in here 2 months ago, so they had to think I am someone else.

Damn that's rough. Someone after your guns. Probably saw you bringing them in from after your range trip.

Yea I am also confused but I can imagine if I had adrenaline pumping and still shaking from an event that scared the crap out of me, I don't think I'd be able to tell a story correctly the first time.

Thanks for clarifying, glad you're ok. There was a gap in the story, almost sounded like the cops kicked in your door.

I'm a little confused too. So he's pounding in your door, your aiming your gun and on the phone with 911, and they tell you to put down your gun while the dude is pounding on your door?

Or did the police show up and apprehend him while he was there? Or did he leave? I don't understand.

Still, glad you're ok OP. That sounds extremely frightening. I'm also glad that you didn't have to pull the trigger. We talk a lot on this forum about self defense but bottom line I don't think any law abiding gun owners actually WANTS to fire a shot in anger unless their back is up against the wall. Glad it worked out OP.

Sorry, a little rattled still. Geez this is a tough crowd tonight.

I called 911 from my cell, dispatcher answered right after the kick. The guy obviously ran off. I told the dispatcher I was armed and watching the door. He told me to stay put until the cops arrived, and he would inform me when to put the gun down, and then inform the police when I had done so.

He moved in two months ago, and some goons try to take him out the game because the previous owner was a pot lord of California. OP called dispatched immediately on his cellphone, the goons dispersed as sirens came. OP forgot he was living in a liberal state where you get shot from brandishing your weapons at criminals, or inside the comfort of your own home. I would suggest getting some door alarms, window alarms, so if anything moves it'll sound like a siren from WWII...

You did the right thing by getting in position, thumbs up on the situation, install a video camera, or hire some security company to do it... I have a feeling whoever wants in, wants in, be prepared for Round 2, get yourself a Dingo (the dog), as another follow CGer suggested. They got zero percent body fat, and are smart as %@!$!
