Range gear for new shooters

I would suggest adding:

6 inch paper plates - much cheaper then paper targets. Small enough to staple up multiple targets to the backer for shooting drills. Also, a good sized target for general (non-sharpshooter) accuracy training

Thanks Chief. Hey, were you at the Burbank Firing Line last night?? I saw a dude shooting paper plates with an orange cut-out post-it note in a shape of a star as a bulls-eye. Had on pink Winchester earmuffs and furry leopard print-like glove on the shooting hand.

Hahaha. The longer someone shoots, the bigger the bag gets. Also, shooting outdoors increases the supplies. Stapler, spotting scope, big ole containers with wheels, etc. as other posters mentioned.

If your reading this thread you are not likely LE or a real operator looking for pointers. Your going to the range to have fun, do some training, and maybe try to improve your shooting and accuracy techniques. When you are there, give your self and others a break. Be helpful and not judgemental. We want more people interested in the sport and playing uber-snobby-gun-jerk wont help that. On the flip side, don't worry what others think of how you shoot, practice, or how accurate you are. Take your time and enjoy yourself.

Would add one item.Cleaning rod to knock out stuck cases.Especially if you shoot steel cased ammo.A cheap threaded rod will work.

That's another mention of a first aid kit. I've never been injured while shooting, except for a hot brass burning my eye brow. Aside from the worst case scenario of the gun blowing up in your hand, what kind of injuries are we talking?

For the price id rather have it just in case and never need it. Accidents happen. Plus the range bag is always in the car so it doubles as the car first aid kit.

For brass to head avoidance. Learned this lesson after getting a .45 casing from two lanes away land get caught between my glasses and the bridge of my nose.

Hahaha. Funny you mention that, because a hot brass got stuck between my eyebrow and glasses too. The next time out, I wore a cap......along with my respirator. Hahaha. Yep, I was THAT guy.

The whole brass to the head idea got me thinking about proper range attire for women.

Women should not wear low cut, loose fitting t-shirt's.....to the range that is.

I tried to persuade my wife from doing so the first time I took her shooting. She wouldn't listed and guess what? Yep, hot brass between the "girls". She did well though. She calmly and safely put the gun down before going into panic mode to dislodge said spent cartridge that had buried itself with the confines that only I am privy to.

We laughed about that one for a long time afterwards.

I feel like I should mention that those Howard Leights are perfectly fine, assuming that your head is the right shape. In my case, there's a sizeable gap around my jawline, so I've pretty much given up wearing them. Definitely a product that I would recommend trying before buying.
