Why do I need a holster for Bodyguard?

I just received my S&W Bodyguard 380 today. It has a heavy trigger which I like for a conceal and carry purpose and also a safety lever which I intend to use while carrying. Do I need a holster? What for?

I'm a newbie. Waiting for my LiveScan to get CCW permit.

Planning on only pocket carry? A DeSantis holster will allow you to pocket carry while disguising the shape of the gun. There is the techna clip too, no holster and slides onto your waistband. Looks easy to install.

Those are the exact two reasons it is a very good idea, and a holster that covers the trigger will help prevent either from happening

Pocket carry with a good holster and nothing else in the pocket as keychain and things can get hung up on the gun

You do not need a holster for qualifying your weapon for CCW. You do not NEED a IWB or a OWB holster to safely carry a gun. You absolutely can pocket carry a gun safely. But as in all things gun....treat it with the respect it deserves and never be complacent and you'll be fine.

I got a nice desantis holster that's made of mouse pad like material. It's sticky rubber on the outside that snags when you pull it out of the pocket and the inside is smooth. It breaks up the gun profile better than a leather or kydex holster and works flawlessly. Also keeps the lint and other crap out of the working parts of your gun better than the glocktech style holster.

No matter how heavy the trigger is, I don't like the idea of anything getting into the trigger guard. I also don't like the idea of the other items on my pocket (metal pen for instance) rubbing against the body of my firearm.

Let's talk about the Bodyguard's safety lever. If that is engaged, there is no way you can fire that thing. If you can remember to holster it, you should be able to put the safety on...right? What can happen without a holster and safety lever activated?

besides some of the reasons mentioned about...
holsters also keep the pistol aligned (canted at the angle that is best for a quick draw.) in the correct position.
pocket sizes (and their openings) sometimes varry even between the exact same brand / type of pants.

if you ever have to run or jog fast ( say, to catch up to someone stealing your car with your child In it.)
you will notice the pistol jumps, rotates and moves around and is no longer in the correct position. you would have to fumble around to get it aligned & into your hand when you need it the most.

that is just one extra reason to have the holster besides trigger safety, pocket lint getting into the gun, or even that the semi - sharp metal edges of the pistol wearing out your pockets prematurely.

With a pocket holster it prevents printing the gun. I have a 38 bodyguard.

Safeties can be bumped off while in the pocket, the chance of your safety getting bumped off and the trigger being pulled by something in your pocket is probably pretty slim. However carry that way long enough and the chances of a negligent discharge go up. Holsters aren't expensive, surgeries and funerals are...just get a holster.
