    Burning 5.56mm Shells with a Torch, Ballistic Gel

    It's Ammo Torcher (Torture) Wednesday again. This time we're lighting off two 5.56x45mm cartridges, one NATO style with an FMJ bullet and Boxer primer and the other a steel cased with a Berdan primer. Enjoy the show!

    FAQ:
    Q) What's the point?
    A) Just interesting to watch

    Q) That's dangerous; are you stupid?
    A) Research was done. Spoiler alert: It's safer than driving to the range.

    Q) Can you try [caliber A] or [load B]?
    A) We tried 15 different caliber/gauges. Posting them weekly.

        New question(s):
        Q) Have you tested by torching other areas of the cartridge? If the torch was focused on the body of the case would there have been different results?
        You could have answered this in other videos but I have not watched them...

            Why do you keep wasting ammo like this?

            I suggest you google SAMMI.

              It would be interesting to see what would happen if you heated up the powder instead of the primer. The position and temp of the torch makes a difference.

                You keep asking the same question and I'm not sure if you're serious about them, but I'll answer them anyway. We used about 20 cartridges and about a buck of Propane. That's cheap fun and was very interesting to me at least. Yes, as has been pointed out and posted several times, I have seen the SAAMI video or I would not have tried this for fear of getting hurt. I think you have a point to make, but seriously, it took us more gas to get to the range than the money we spent on ammo.

                      these guys could have saved a lot of money, time, and ammo if they knew that things follow the path of least resistance.

                            I tried to get one before our 'torching session' but could not find any at the LGS. We do have bigger stuff coming though.
