Help! Cerakote Gone Wrong

I would also contact Cerakote and let them know what happened. They may yank the shop's certification and perhaps help you have it fixed at another certified shop.

I hope you get it fixed right. I just started using cerakote myself at home on my own stuff and it would be common sense to not apply it to the trigger assembly or any of the firing mechanism for that matter. Maybe consider doing it yourself if you can, a starter kit for about 280 bux can get you pretty far. and maybe have some friends chip in and get some different colors and the cost goes down and you can end up with some great looking stuff that you did on your own. That is what I did. Its actually pretty fun to do, I would guess the sand blasting may be an issue but look around you can pick up cheap ones and sell it when your done.Or maybe you may know someone with one..........

First off as a Certified Cerakote Applicator and a Gunsmith I am really disappointed that a Certified Applicator would behave in that manner. Certified Applicators should be doing the work no different than if you had shipped it off and had the Cerakote Factory do it themselves.

I would call Cerakote as they can apply pressure for these guys to the job as they were trained to do. Cerakote policy is that ONLY the person that went to training is the Certified Applicator not the business. So if the owner was the only one to attend training then ONLY he is certified to apply Cerakote and anyone else, including employees, can not do it and claim applied by a certified applicator.

If done correctly all parts can be coated without causing any malfunctions in the firearm ... but that all depends if a Gunsmith is doing the work or someone that paints cars.


If the shop still screws up your guns then I will recoat them for you FREE of charge in one color ....... all you have to do is take care of the shipping and insurance both ways. If you want additional colors I will just charge you the cost of the Cerakote.

What is the usual charge for having a rifle such as this Cerakoted?

Wide range between shops actually for doing a AKs/ARs and all the parts plus disassembly and reassembly (yes some shops charge separate fees for that) can be from $225 up to $375 in one color depending on the shop.

As for the original shop! Shame on them for not following best practices. Good luck and I hope that it turns out good this time. At least they're working with you to fix it.
