    HK45 Frustration

Finally decided to get a HK45 Full FDE as my second to last pistol purchase for the year(& DROSing a VP9 Tuesday). Now although I am certainly no amazing competitive level pistol shooter but I have been shooting for well over 20 years and proficiently shoot my many Glockworx modded Glocks, Colt Rail Gun, Les Baer UTC and a Bill Springfield worked HK USP45 and various Sigs well.

So today was the big day to break in the HK45. Confidently started(using American Eagle) at 25yds on 6" targets and couldn't hit anywhere inside of the 6" target. Realized quickly that front sight had to be directly over target and at 10yds was able to keep most shots inside 6" target but with no consistent grouping and some occasional flyers. I pulled out the LB 1911(just to make sure it wasn't me having a off day) and was hitting the 3" targets with usual consistency and tight groupings. Went back to try 25yds again and couldn't hit it.

    Please any and all opinions.......

One session with your new handgun isn't enough to hang it up and put it back in the safe. Try shooting it several more times and see if your groupings improve.

Sometimes a particular handgun just isn't the right one for you. At one time I had 8 HK P7's (P7M8s, P7s and P7M13s) that I picked up over the years at low end prices. I carried one off and on for a couple of years. P7s are known for their exceptional build quality and accuracy but not in my hands. I tried to love my P7s and spent many range sessions trying to get them to shoot well but in the end I just could not bond with them. I ended up selling all of them...at a nice profit too boot...and settled back to my other handguns that I was much more proficient with.

My point is that as much as you want the HK maybe its just not right for you.

HK's use a "dead on hold" sight picture.

      Refer to the link below
If you're in America, Koch is pronounced: Coke. Not so if in Germany. For further information on that, see the post on how to correctly spell Koch in the Special Topics section of World of HK. HK sight picture HK uses the "Dead on hold", Point of Impact will be BEHIND the front sight when...

Nevermind, you said you shot HK's before. So disregard above.....

Try the larger back strap. Mine shot about 2" to the left at 40 yards but just above the front sight plane. After adjusting the front sight dead center on the slide (rear was already centered) its now absolutely one of the most accurate 45's ive owned. Will even outshot my les bear. Will stay on a 3" plate at 35 yards 48 out of 50 rounds. Great gun!

Similar story, struggled with low left and groups, would go back to my trusty Sig or SW Revolver and all was well. Frustrating. Things got better when I changed my grip from the modern left thumb forward on the frame, and brought my thumb back down old school weaver grip...

Play around and see what works best.
