    Consignment Fee - Negotiable?

I'm fine with a gun store owner making their money on a consignment sale - it's their storefront and license, they're the ones who do the selling and if things don't work out, it's their unhappy customer. My experience is that 20% is pretty much standard and that's fine with me. But ......

I'd like to consign a gun at one of our local shops, and I figure the pricing will be in the $5,000.00 range. So 20% of 5K is 1K and well - well I'm wondering if a gun store reducing their fee is unheard of, is it usual or is it common? Anyone have any 1st hand experience?

Also, keeping in mind that a local store was broken into (I have a gun there but who the hell wants to steal a bolt Rem 700 in 8X57) what if a person's consigned gun is stolen? SOL or since it's taken into their inventory it's covered?

Depends on the agreement you sign w/ the shop. I am certainly willing to negotiate on rates for big collections or high end guns and believe others do this as well. As far as coverage it depends on the Insurance the FFL carries.

Sell it here or if you can't/won't then maybe take it to an auction house and set a reserve.

What FEDUP said. It's all in the way you negotiate the deal.

Have clear lines of communication with the FFL and get terms and % in writing. I no longer do business with a shady FFL due to consignment % tomfoolery and other stuff I did not like.

Yes....you can offer less than 20%.....get dealer responsability and its limits in writing. There might be a 30 day consighment limit...then you will have to re DROS the gun back to you...something in those lines.

There are a few Calguner's who do buy fine fireams. I say list and give it a FREE try......Please don't list a Browning.....I might have to buy it
