I guess I didn't read the rules close enough. I will include bacon in subsequent polls.Oh, and poll FAIL...no BACON!Comment

Thank you for your concern. I didn't see you there. We weren't the first people to try this and did our research. We WERE behind barriers and wearing eye and ear pro. If you watch the SAAMI video or read Hathcher's Notebook, you'll note that this was pretty safe.Comment

Heck, all you need is a straw and a piece of blacktop.
Sorry, not sorry.

Dear autocorrect, I'm really getting tired of your shirt!Comment

No I wasn't there, but I can tell from the video that you did nothing to contain the ammo when it blew. You even stated you did not know where the bullet went. So if you feel safe allowing a bullet to go flying without knowing where it will go, then I just hope I am never around when you do that again.Comment

Obviously SAAMI and the firefighters they hired for THEIR video would call you overcautious. You're wrong, but I'm also not going to be able to convince you so feel free to disagree. No I wasn't there, but I can tell from the video that you did nothing to contain the ammo when it blew. now why is it the case that the brass is more of a projectile than the actual bullet, when heated with the torch?Originally posted by thrillhouse700I have to wait until all the info is in before I make a statement. Obviously the family dogs had it coming.... other than that, waiting on more info.Comment

I saw that trick with the straw frequently when I was young. A friend of mine showed me how to do it with a .22lr cartridge. Not satisfied with that, an unnamed youth started experimenting with larger rounds. When doing it with centerfire cartridges you need to attach something to the primer. A small ball bearing taped over the primer worked well. They worked reliably regardless of the angle at which they hit the ground.
Shotgun shells were fun, but due to their width were not that reliable. The best were .308W.
When the powder explodes the case ruptures. That was true of 100% of the cases I inspected afterwards. The bullet will fly off, but it doesn't have anywhere near the velocity it would have coming out of a gun barrel. I think the brass shrapnel is more dangerous than the bullet. I've seen that first video before and I think they said that their turn-out coats were able to stop all the brass shrapnel.
One time somebody tossed one a little bit more vertically than intended and it went off right near a bunch of us. The bullet hit the side window of my car. It didn't break it, but the sound of it smacking the glass made those irresponsible kids alter the design. These anonymous youths would pull the bullets from multiple cartridges and then fill the entire case with powder. I wouldn't recommend this but the neck of the cartridge could be forced through the bottom of a film cannister and taped in place. The film cannister could then be filled with more powder and very fine magnesium shavings. But that would be completely irresponsible, dangerous and probably illegal, so don't do it.

I'm sorry...this was just too depressing to watch. 28,000 rounds? I'd like to conduct my own research; how long would it take for 1 person to use up 30,000 rounds? If the experimenters from the video are reading them, please feel free to contact me so I can give you the address where you can ship the ammunition

When I was about 8 or 9, I put a .22 in the basement incinerator after I loaded it up. Took a minute until it went off. Never did dig thru the ashes to see what it looked like. The incinerator was all steel, so I was at least bright enough to do it in a safe place....Comment

I don't think you understand how bullets traject when they aren't chambered, especially a .22. not really any more deadly than a firecracker and USPSA ricochets..Retired AccountComment
