    whats your home defense weapon?

Im curious as to what people use as their home defense weapon and what their justification is for picking it. Pistol, Shotgun or Rifle?

Nightstand - Glock 41 w/ Federal HST 230gr standard pressure (quick access)
Unlocked safe - Rem 870 w/ Federal LE 00 buck Flite Control (only if I have the time to grab it)

Both have weapon mounted surefire lights. I always have a handheld light as well.

Most importantly is how much trigger time do you have under the watchful eye of a good self defense instructor? especially low light classes

I haven't settled yet. I believe all three serve a different purpose.

I don't have a good, secure place near my bed for a long gun. So a full-size, heavy, reliable, large-caliber, 10+1 pistol does it for me. I currently use a Daewoo DH40 for that purpose but may be switching to CZ 97 when I get it out of jail.

For situations where I can take my time a little more I want a shotgun or rifle. Shotgun (pump, preferably 8 rounds of #1 buckshot) if I'm panicking and can't aim. Semi-auto rifle (in an adequate caliber) if I feel like I can place a shot right.

The shotgun has a bonus of being incredibly intimidating, especially if it's a pump action that racks loudly. I might use that if I want to really scare them off.

If I lived alone or had a good place near bed for it, I might make the shotgun or rifle the primary bedside defense.

Depends on how I feel that night. lately its been 357 magnum and a 30 carbine. sometimes its a 1911 or 12 gauge with 00 buck.

My priorities for choosing a HD gun are: Reliability, effectiveness, and loudness in that order.

Currently, my main HD firearm is a Mossberg 500. But I always have a Glock 9mm nearby, so I guess that is technically my first line of defense.

                        Glock 17, 930 12g, AR pistol in 5.56.

mini 14 and I keep a couple pistols close by. I can shoot a rifle faster and more accurately than a pistol or a shotgun and a .223 is more effective at stopping someone than a pistol caliber
