What is 50BMG brass worth?

Is there a demand / market for used 50 BMG brass?

Yes, there is a market. Depending on the brand, it does vary, but LC seems to go for around $.75 a round or so. Preferred is non-MG fired since it does work the brass more.

Wouldn't all LC brass on the surplus market pretty much be machinegun brass? If not, is there a way to tell by looking at it, or do you need to measure it?

I don't know of a way to determine by looking. I think the concern is that if the headspace is set long, the brass gets stretched a lot, and then you may only get a couple shots out of it before you get case head separations. MrKubota would probably know more.

I've seen guys selling LC that they say was Barrett-shot. Probably policed up during training. But you'd have to take them at their word.

Make up a brass gauge. Kind of like a lobster gauge but longer. Cut yourself a piece of steel with a 3.9 cutout. If it fits, pay up, if not go ahead and delete whatever your time to make it fit is worth. If it's just plain fugly make windchimes.

It depends on the headstamp, if it is new or not, fired from a bolt gun? semi rifle? MG? Many of the M2 and M3s in todays military seem to have excessive headspace issues. If fired from one of these guns, the brass is only worth scrap. I'm sitting on 500 rounds of unfired TZZ headstamped brass that I can easily get $2 a piece for! Then, I've got some that is once fired MG brass that's worth about $0.40 a piece. I'm not positive what kind of gauge TKM is talking about but, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in deciding how good the brass is based solely on it's length.

The going rate is about .50 cents right now and that's for surplus of questionable quality. You can get never fired pull down surplus that's primed for $1 each that will work just fine. Then there's WCC new primed for about $1.50 depending on where you buy and Igman brass for about the same but doesn't come primed.

If your brass is in good condition and you want to sell it fast, .40 cents each would get it sold in minutes anywhere on the net. If you want to hold out for the big bucks, put it on Gun Broker and let the insane people have it.
