as long as they are not inserted into the magwell you can have the mags loaded up and in the same container
If its a longgun no container is required"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson -
OK as long as it's not attached to the firearmComment

You have to read the caselaw for yourself because folks at the DOJ and some LEA/LEO's would prefer you to not have loaded magazines not in the magwells even though you are well within your rights.
See People v. Clark.

So when driving a standard cab truck, can the locked gun case can be behind the seat/under the seat/on the floor? I cringe thinking I had to strap down my case in the back bed with a bungie cord, but I've done it a couple of times. Most of the time, I wedge the case behind the driver's seat. As I understand it, it is inaccessible by the driver:
#1 I can't reach it, especially when I'm driving. If I'm not driving, I still have to get out to get to it.
#2 It's locked and unloaded.
I'm probably in violation to the letter of the law.
I think that was the only time I didn't have loaded magazines when I travelled to the range was when I was headed to the former National Shooting Range, where Reed's Indoor Range is now located. One of their rules: no loaded magazines before entering the building.
They had a bench/table in front for you to unload your magazines before entering. Once inside, the usual inspect your firearms, ammo, yada yada. Then when you entered the range, you could load your magazines. What a pain! The time I could be shooting was spent reloading my mags.
There are times when a wheel gun is more convenient. Toss some 38 Specials in your pocket and you're golden.I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I always have my magazines loaded regardless of location. Also use the search button on transportation and OC to better understand the laws."Legitimate use of violence can only be that which is required in self-defense." Ron Paul
