    Benchrest/bipod questions HBRMS?

Interested in a 6-9 inch bipod for benching, nothing elaborate, as in no "precision" work. Mostly for .22lr 50 yard & occasional .308 100-200 yard. Is the Harris HBRMS a good fit? Does it lock up (adj) securely? The legs fold back?

Thanks for all replies, as I've never used one.
Yes I took the pic, no I didn't go swimming!

The legs fold FORWARD. Towards the muzzle.

BRM'S' is the most recommended one. It's 6"-9" notched leg. The notches are a quick adjust locking point. They lock securely in the notches.

You can get cheaper bipods than the Harris S-BRM (I think this is the one with the swivel feature and the notched legs), but you'll only save a few bucks, and there will be a noticeable drop-off in quality. This bipod really performs well for not much money, and you probably won't feel the need to upgrade any time soon.

I use mine a lot, although I purchased the next size up (9" to 13").

Yes, please do this. For basic bipods like a Harris, you fold forward. When you shoot, you will want to load the bipod a bit (lean forward into it) for stability. You cannot do this if the legs fold backwards. Some bipods that mount under your stock that offer various locking cants can be folded either way since they will adjust 180 degrees, but you'd still fold it forward when not engaged.

That may seem like remedial information, but I have seen folks at ranges mount their bipods backwards.

You can sign up for Big5 email alerts. Wait for the discount coupon and get the Caldwell version. Half the cost.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

              Harris Bi-Pods

The Harris bi-pods are good to go. They're a little heavier than some of the other brands, but even with that I use them not only at the range but in the field when I'm deer hunting. Most of the time I don't use the one on my deer rifle, but a low to mid sized Harris bi-pod is always there and I have shot bucks using it.

And don't be afraid you won't be able to do "precision" work with it. A Harris bi-pod may not be suitable for shooting one hole groups at 100 yards that are just a hair bigger than caliber, but I routinely get sub-MOA groups at 100 yards with my deer rifle (.270 Win.) using a Harris bi-pod at the range, so it's plenty good for us average shooters.

Got the Harris BRMS, 6-9 with notches, looks great on my .22 rifle. Got the swivel lock too from ebay. Can't believe I didn't use this set-up years ago. I've rented various rests & use a few bags, not anymore. Maybe a rear bag. Legs forward, got it.
