I read a good Sci-Fi short story many years ago about a pacifist who had developed technology that would inhibit any explosive or quick burning fuel in existance. It made all firearms obsolete. Tanks couldn't fire, it even kept flame throwers from burning.

He developed this technology in order to do away with war.

The unintended consequence, the next war became more brutal and savage than any previous war had been. The weapons used in this new brutal war, axes, clubs, spears, catapults with giant rocks.

Human beings will always find a way to kill each other if they so desire.

A mentally ill person who does not have access to a firearm, can simply go to Walmart and buy a machete from the camping supply section. He can fill a CamelPak with Gasoline and light a match as he sprays the people around him and sets them on fire. He can drive his car down the boardwalk at the beach and kill as many people as he can hit.

The author of the article doesn't understand the human element.

Right up until the courts are filled with politically appointed judges raised to think guns are bad. People keep forgetting that the antis are in this for the long haul.

We are all in for the long haul.

Besides, even if it were true that judges will become political hacks (and it's not - Roe v. Wade hasn't been overturned,) the current political situation would have to lead to the opposite conclusion - the courts will be stacked with pro-gun political hacks (November 4th wasn't kind to anti gunners.)

Seriously, no point in sending him anything. It might make you feel better, but those e-mails tend to get out of control and cross into threats. That's the last thing we want.

Besides, there is no way of changing his mind, so the best action is to publish our own side of the story and let *him* get upset.
