What is the best way to remove mild oxidation (PRE-RUST)?

I didnt clean my guns after shooting a few weeks ago out in the boonies and my hand oils did a number on one of my SS matte finish mags and the steel ring that gets worn on the rear of one of my YHM handguards is "growing" some orange powder on the surface and even on some of my USP mags it is effecting their "Hostile Enviroment" Finish...

Should I just use Gun Oil and elbow grease and try to rub it off w/ a rag and store it with a little extra oil on the "problem areas" or are more drastic measures needed?

P.S. I normally clean after every shoot but this time I got lazy PLEASE help I dont want my whole rifle to RUST!

Sounds to me like some kind of chemical reaction is going on. IMHO step one is to get whatever is on the parts off.

I use two methods to remove slight rust. If you use a #2 pencil to "color" the rust spots, the graphite will sorta scrape the rust off. Another way to remove rust is to use 4O steel wool and plain old 3-in one oil. Make sure the surface and the steel wool are wet with the oil and then VERY gently buff the rust off. When all is said and done, thoroughly clean the surface and apply a good rust inhibitor/oil.

Obviously, I can't take responsibility for your outcome. GO EASY on the steel wool.

I had that on my savage a while back and used a oil soaked rag to take it off

I presume none of the previous methods worked out?

              Can you post pictures?
